We do follow each other on Strava but I’m no cyclist so can’t be me but I’ll take it…thanks.

Dun Run then.

Good: atmosphere, riding through the night is :100:, the route is great with super smooth roads, the beach at the end is lovely, didn’t really spot any chainganging wankers.

Bad: leaving London was a massive ballache. Thousands of folk doing it means a queue at EVERY stop which resulted in me not eating enough

Would do again but I’d take a shit tonne of food with me. Bonked massively at about 180km which was baaaad and I’m not sure I’ve recovered because instead of eating at the end, I had three beers instead

Oh also I saw DOTS loads which was nice. He had the best jersey on (la vie claire)

that would be the start line?

Also known as a start line, yes @profk.

sorry, getting a bit zxcvbnm there.

Depart being another word for start

Chaingang wankers are first off normally

let’s not turn this into a domestique.

Boom!

sounds fun apart from the whole saturday night in london bit !

yeah i’m planning on taking as many clif bars as i feasibly can stuff in my pockets next week, 10? 12 ?? and 1 gel for every half hour…so… 24 gels? lol. Not relying on the french being anything other supremely selfish, the front runners will have cleaned out all feed stations before I get there I reckon.

better practice your dumoulin emergency bib short removal

Holy moly, you’ll be shitting through the eye of a needle. Might be more aero like that though.

Could adopt the Pantani position on the bike… might be a bit messy though.

Yeah you’re probably right there.

Will almost certainly be doing it again next year and leave earlier (don’t think we left until at least 8.30, think leaving at 7pm would be better) and pack a shiteload more food. Ripe for a DiS Wankers ride tbh (I assume by next year we would actually have a spare room if anyone needed it after).

I left around 8:30 the year I did it and didn’t get many queues apart from the fire station one at Sudbury, but even that got me served within 15 minutes or so (although the early pubs were pretty busy). I was pretty slow though cos I was on a 20 year old MTB and kept stopping for beer so maybe I was running behind the main crowds. Didn’t get to the beach until just before 7am. Or maybe it’s got a bit bigger in the couple of years since?

Sad to miss out this year, I really want to do it again! Glad you enjoyed it.

Sudbury had run out of food by the time we got there (1.20am!!!) which was an issue because we were all planning on eating there. This meant we didn’t get food until Needham (3.30ish) but it took ages, like we were there for over an hour I think. Got to Dunwich at 7.30ish, those last 20 or so kms were a struggle for me because I just didn’t manage eating properly. Silly really when I cycle loads and have done lots of long rides before

Ah that’s shit. Sudbury had started to run out when I got there (probably around the same sort of time) but I still managed to get a bacon roll and a cup of coffee in. Was fucking sick of Soreen and energy gels by that point. Needham is another one of the main stops I think so not surprised that was busy, especially if Sudbury was running out. Still, an hour is a bit mad! At least it’s a nice location for a stop though with the lake and stuff. And thankfully there’s no rush to be anywhere. But it definitely sounds like either the ride is loads busier, or people are setting off earlier earlier now.

I found the best places to stop were some of the impromptu ones that had sprung up in the last 40 miles, in people’s front gardens and stuff. Hardly any queues and some were giving out free teas and coffees as well, or giving all the proceeds to charity. I would have struggled big time towards the end without them.

Yeah, I didn’t mind waiting around (the queue for coffee was even bigger) at all. Annoyingly I’d brought a large saddlebag and had the capacity for masses of food but I thought we’d be stopping loads… Ah well. Apparently 2000+ folk rode it (someone on Facebook said 6000 which I assume is bullshit).

Guys I now have tan lines on my back in the shape of my bib short straps because of my thin jersey
