Dinner plate cassettes

depends on the mountains - 32t is pretty much useless to me here where max gradient is 12%, but I imagine i’d be grateful of it some of those british short steep 25% cliffs

That’s blatantly a one by MTB cassette. 30/36 or something stupid similar

apparently this is a 40t :joy:

i wanna build up my next bike with 42 11-42

Exactly, you can get up most things with a 36/32 (i managed most of the stuff in the peaks on a 36/28 and I’m an 18st unfit lump)

50t? it’s an arms race

that’s a fair point

Wtf is that shit? Is that the block on your genesis japes?

Having said that think I’d have been on the 50t Frisbee looking at mont du chat yesterday

look at the state of it

Ugly as sin

Yeah I’m thinking future proofing too. I’ve come on massively in the last month or two. I’m finding myself spending more and more time near the 11 at the back. If I actually start doing some mid week rides as well I’ll only get better.

Think I’m gonna go 52/36 and 11-32. A long cage will fit an 11-28 if I ever wanted to go that way further on as well, right?

yeah

Cool thanks for the help. I’m trying to verse myself in the technicalities of being a proper bike wanker.

@plasticniki I’m running 11-28 on the back at the moment. So I reckon the Semi-Compact would give me something fairly comfortable, plus a bit extra if I need it.

You should be okay then! I just assume everyone runs a 32 and finds hills as urgh as I do.

Going to North Wales this weekend so I’ve been browsing Ridewithgps for some route ideas. What the hell is this https://ridewithgps.com/trips/11301905 ?

Are you riding there from home?

Nah, driving to Anglesey, so in all honesty, I’ll probably just stay riding on the island.I have gone as far as Penmaenmawr from Manchester once, so have wondered about going all the way Anglesey… Probably not the best way to set myself up for birthday celebrations though.

Only asking as the route from Chester to Bangor is beyond shit. One of the most tedious and annoying rides of my life. The trek from Rhyl to Bangor (ish) is on a cycle path that resembles an Escher sketch at times
