Yeah, that’s the way I went. Tried to avoid the endless dual carriageway near Flint and ended up getting very told off for trespassing on a power plant or something similar. After that, the seaside cycle path was quite a relief.

I tried to come home the next day more inland, but the endless singletrack 15-20% up and down killed me so much that when I got a puncture near a train station and my pump broke, I was quite relieved.

Our original route to cut inland from Chester and come through Capel Curig and over Pen-y-Pass to Llanberis. Then a local recommended the seaside cycle path from Rhyl. Absolutely hated that leg. That path was shit. Covered in sand, loads of short sharp dogs, plenty of riding the opposite direction for a while. All whilst operating on no sleep. Shit, shit, shit.

11-25 :call_me_hand:

Used to love riding 11-25. Too fat and unfit now

What’s the benefit of having that limited a range if you’ve got an 11 speed cassette? Is it just that you can maintain exactly the same cadence?

Yep

preliminary route for DiS Ecosse:

now before you start shitting yourselves, note that

a) that total distance includes a fair amount of ferry travel (final dist is about 135km)
2) once we get back to wemyss (after about 85km) we’ll pass regular train stations, so you can pack it in whenever you want
iii) you get a nice wee rest on a boat every so often

Kind of disappointed it isn’t actually 185km tbqh.

(Looks :100:)

Oh man that looks good.

that’s quite an ambitious route tbh (it’s a long day) I imagine what will probably happen is we’ll get to wemyss, and cut back down to ardrossan and train back from there. but we can play it by ear and see how folk feel at the time.

Fucking yes, get to go to Arran again. Japes, this looks brilliant.

this has kind of blown my mind a little bit. Really didn’t realise you can cycle out of Glasgow, jump on a ferry or 2, go to Arran (!), ferry back to the mainland and train it back… all in a day. Amazing
