that climb is a dick tbf

Is this route similar to the one you did a few months ago?

more or less (except the opposite direction).

apart from two big climbs, which everyone can take at their own pace, it’s honestly not too bad. also you really do feel the benefit of getting a wee rest waiting on the next ferry!

you’ll be fine

do the ferries sell refreshments

some do. the big ones even have a bar.

the smallest one is like a five minute crossing don’t think they even have seats

I was thinking coffee.

Mate you’re in Scotland, you’ve gotta Buckie up that coffee.

there’s plenty of cafes in tarbet for a good lunch stop

Yeah, but that distance is nearly three times what I’ve ever cycled in a single day, and you guys are all super fast on strava. I guess I just need to git gud.

Also, I eat a lot. Are there food stops (pubs) en route?

yeah. we’ll definitely stop for lunch halfway round. but there’s also plenty of shops and that in between.

Good. I do like to eat.

I am literally eating right now, in fact.

This looks like a proper jaunt! Combining all my best modes of transport. Bikes, Trains and Boats!

And afterwards, “Those aren’t pillows!”

just try and get out for long rides at the weekend. try and build up to a 75km, then you should be fine for this. just get some time in the saddle and everything will be okay.

also, i am not fast, i will certainly be at the rear of the DiS peloton. i have good stamina but not speed.

Might head out to Essex at the weekend and try to find some hills…

essex is quite flat really

might be some routes if you dig around here: https://leavalleycc.microco.sm/microcosms/286/

the only ride i’ve done aside from dunwich dymano on saturday evening out of north london was the suburban breakout: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/14973713

leaving north london on a bike is horrific compared to south london (imho)

you can find loads of rides on ridewithgps though (i used “essex loop” as keywords and picked rides starting within 10km of London), here’s one: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/7004574

Yeah, I was half joking about finding hills in Essex…

I might actually ride out to Hertford and then north from there - I know the area and where the decent rides and hills are.

Wow, that looks incredible. Dead dead dead jealous

If you’ve not ridden in a big group before you’ll really be taken back by just how much easier it is than riding solo, just let mike take all the time in the wind
