Most fun! Mainly because there’s so much choice. I just love looking at bike shoes.

I hate having choice…

Late to the party but I’ve got the A530s on my shit bike. Did probably 18 months of commuting. They’re a compromise and that’s basically how they ride.

Don’t have an issue finding either side of the pedals, but I’m used to faffing with SPD-SL. They naturally fall to having the SPD facing up so once you get used to it, it’s fine.

This is on my route home and was happening last week too (there’s been roadworks here and apparently local residents were angry at people cycling on the pavement) but the roadworks are done now. WTF is wrong with people?

One for @allnerve, perhaps

(dw isn’t recent, just been RT’d into my timeline post-Charlie Alliston)

so according to the I the government are going to pass a law about dangerous cycling.
yes, given the huge numbers of fatalities that seems like a good use of parliamentary time.
don’t worry abut correcting the laws on incidents between cars & cyclists first, that would be stupid.
listen to johnny red top reader & whatever they are told to be angry about instead

it’s bullshit - but this feel like a knee jerk announcement to give the impression they are “doing something”

Doubt any actual policy will come of it

This guy has just been sentenced to 18 months - surely that suggests that the existing law is adequate?

[FWIW - I’m not particularly convinced it should have even made it to court]

meant to be doing a 200km on saturday, bike still isn’t back from the shop getting the BB changed.

ffs this is why i do maintenance myself. going to be well fucked off if i miss this ride.

that’s shit. did they say how long it’d take? give them a ring?

just phoned them, was meant to be ready today, now it “might” be tomorrow ffs.

they sound like nobs

Another perk of the subscription maintenance thing I’ve signed up for is free bike hire whenever yours is in ge workshop. Good idea imo

The cynicism of a Government who jumps on a bandwagon in response to a case that drew outsize attention – when it sees a chance to win some favour with a disillusioned electorate – while at the same time sitting on its hands in the face of a much, much bigger problem, is breathtaking.

^spot on

BTW, plans are coming together for a DiS bike dorks do Mallorca next March (~2/3-8th March, flight £ ranges from about £50-130, accommodation in a silly villa £100 at the most, bike hire from £70-120, so it’s pretty cheap). If you’re interested, send me a PM.

Urgh.

Cycled alongside Transcon rider 187 for a bit this morning. Really wanted to say something but didn’t. Just Googled him and he’s a cycling solicitor! Nice.

you know what’s really exciting? INNER TUBES

do you buy a particular kind or just get whatever is cheapest? I just get whatever is cheapest but am thinking I might have to change this strategy as the valve burst on my last el cheapo tube and it was quite annoying
