Dunno, just don’t want a bracket forever on my good bike as I hardly ever ride it in the dark. Brackets also sometimes rattle which is fucking annoying.

By “universal mount” I mean the plastic loop bit on the front one you can see – when it’s taken off the bike the mounting thing comes with it. They’re much better imho than brackets.

Also just noticed the rear one takes AAA batteries. I prefer USB chargeable.

Requested the certificate for my cycle to work today too!

The very helpful chap at Decathlon has reserved my bike as apparently it’s the only one they have left!

Was it Tom?

more qs:

I have also ordered both dry and wet chain lubricant. is this necessary?

I got this multitool - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/crank-brothers-10-function-multi-tool/ do I need more things on it?

got 2 of these -
https://www.evanscycles.com/continental-race-28-700c-presta-valve-inner-tube-EV270746 in 42mm. Will they fit on my wheels? Reparto Corse AT470 700C

No, I’m picking mine up from Harlow as it’s easier to get to from ours.

Wet for… when it rains / and for all seasons apart from summer; dry for summer. The mechanic at my LBS says that you should only ever use wet lube, and I trust him, so that’s all I pretty much use now. Wet lube will result in chainring marks though.

The tube: yes, as long as your tyres are between 20-25c. 42mm refers to the length of the valve which will be fine cos you don’t have deep section rims (oooh matron).

@profk

That multitool looks fine, but this Topeak one is better:

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/topeak-hexus-ii-16-function-multi-tool/

As it has a chain tool and some spoke wrenches, as well as tyre levers. I have one.

Though the likelihood of ever needing them while you’re out is quite low tbh.

thank you cyclingniki.

Absolutely no problem proffy kay.

i’ve got a crank brothers multitool and it’s great. the M19 though, which has a chain breaker on it. kinda useful.

Don’t think that’s strictly true. Yes pro mechanics use wet lube exclusively, but they clean their bikes every day. Wet lube stops salt and other winter shit from corroding the chain, but is heavy and needs more regular looking after. dry lubes are lighter, don’t attract as much shit and don’t require as much looking after. It totally depends on the riding conditions. Ride throughout the winter, use wet lube. Ride in the dry, use dry lube

but dry is for like australia dry, not uk dry. every day is wet lube day over here.

Nope, but the type of lube does help. a waxy or ceramic dry lube is totally adequate in our spring and summer months.

just get a bottle of both, i like the muc-off ones because they come with the little UV light which you can also use for checking for spunk stains

Yep, the Muc Off C3 ceramic stuff is great, and it comes with that UV light, so you can check that you’ve cleared up all the mess…I mean that your chain is properly lubed

Hi AGAIN. I’m thinking of getting a trainer when my bike arrives as I’d like to build up some fitness before I get on the roads and also because the weather is still a bit shit. Would the cyclowankers recommend this?

If so, any recommendations? (Under 150 quid)

Definitely recommend, but depends what you want. Turbos are great for power work, but they will never be able to replicate riding on a road. The rear wheel has a tendency to feel like it’s slipping which is very annoying.

Rollers are seen as more pro as there’s an art to riding them (core strength, concentration) there is little resistance unless you whack it into the big dog, but that’s pretty tiring. Brilliant for turning your legs over.

As for recommendations, anything under £150 is much of a muchness, but anything by Tacx is a good bet

I’d just get out on the road if I were you.

question of the day: tyres!

i’m going to ruin my rear tyre on the turbo very quickly but can’t be dealing with getting a whole new spare rear wheel for it, so will just replace the tyre in spring when the turbo goes away again

i really like the spesh tyres i’ve got on at the moment but finding stockists is a ballache in france.

do i just go with continental gts or this there a cheaper just as good option? Roads here are generally good so puncture resistance isn’t that much of a concern
