I would say probably not. Doesn’t look in the best condition and I think you could get much more bike (2nd hand) for around £150-200

Also it sounds like the owner was asking for more than £180 and it has been reduced to £180? Not sure though. Lowballing/offers are not usually encouraged on LFGSS.

@dots knows way more about this shit than I do, so I’d go with his advice. But a new Triban 100 is £250 so wouldn’t that be a better offer?

Cycling on relative flat around mostly cycle paths for 1-2 hour rides, just for exercise or maybe occasionally for light shopping. Perhaps more serious riding when R is doing longer at pre-school, but that is a year away still.

If I can save money getting secondhand I can get something much sooner, as I’ll need to get a helmet, etc too and I can’t afford all of that yet.

@dots the second post two days after the original days “Price drop on this nice little road bike” so that made me think they were considering lower offers? Condition was what I was concerned about, especially as I am very new to this so I don’t really know what is/isn’t good value. I think I just got excited seeing a complete bike which was small enough and maybe in my price range :flushed:

TOP MEAT! LOVELY MEATING NEW PEOPLE AND SEEING OLD ONES!

The fact that there’s not much info about it means I’d steer clear. Not because it’s not a decent price, but it’s just… Not great. For reference I sold my Triban 3 (which would have fit you perfect, was a lovely little bike) for £140 on LFGSS, and I’d upgraded it a bit which meant it had better wheels and tyres compared to when I’d bought it new. It was a bloody bargain for the person who bought it.

Where do you live? Send me a PM and I’ll have a look at local eBay listings if you want :slightly_smiling_face:

Waterproof backpack suggestions: anyone? Not the Alpkit Gourdon.

Needs:

more than just one compartment
to be waterproof without needing a cover
to have ~25 litres of space
a waist strap
to be reasonably priced

How reasonably priced are we talking?

I spent quite a lot on my bag with the justification that I use it every day and don’t regret it at all!

ideally less than £100

Related to this, my beloved Ortlieb panniers have shown their first ever sign of wear and tear

Plastic bit on the shoulder strap sheared off on Friday. Fortunately, never actually use it anyway. Not bad going for an item I purchased over 8 years ago and use almost daily - plus that have survived adverse cycling conditions as extreme as Scotland. The rest of the panniers are literally as good as the day I bouught them - deffo worth spending the £££s on something decent :+1:

:frowning:

Yeah - I have an Ortlieb messenger backpack. I think it would probably survive a nuclear explosion but the problem with it, like loads of waterproof backpacks, is that it’s just one massive compartment. Means my keys and phone and wallet get lost.

Anyway I got a £20 off code for this

making it pretty decent value, fully waterproof with a couple of pockets, for a present for Mike

Sounds like what someone needs is a bumbag!

Or could you get a messenger-style radio attachment for one of the straps to hold your phone and clip your keys onto?

Luckily I’m normally wearing a jersey so I have pockets there, but the few times a month I ride in civvies it is a real bloody pain in the arse.

There must be a phone/wallet(/purse) holder that attaches to a backpack strap that has a clip on it to attach a keyring carabiner, surely?

weekly C2W update - went for the boardman after planet x confirmed to me that they don’t do the scheme anymore. what a waste of time.

anyway, now i have to work out if halfords are going to accept my voucher despite it being £0.01 short of the total. fingers crossed. also all boardman bike purchases get you £75 off accessories in halfords at the moment - hoping that applies too. are pedals accessories…?

should be all good to go by saturday fingers crossed!

I know they exist but can’t for the life of me remember what they’re called.

EDIT:

Woah, look how big this is:

Yeah, that sort of thing looks perfect. I really like having my keys attached to my strap in that position too. Reassuring to know where they are and easy to access them.

Nice. The bag wasn’t for me - I can kind of deal with a cavernous bag and having to hunt through stuff, but this looks very very useful.

Ha, oh right. I’ll stop banging on about it then!

In a rare act of decisiveness I’ve bought a new bike! It’s the On-One Pickenflick (titanium cross bike) that I’ve been eyeing up for a while after discussing with some of you lovely folks… :boom::boom::boom::boom: Saw at the weekend that Planet X had knocked £200 off the Rival 22 build so couldn’t really say no.

Hope it’s as good as it looks. And that I actually like riding off-road.
