If you want specific stands and shelters, then these are the most straightforward (and the links tell you the dimensions required for different numbers):

If it’s Sheffield stands she’s after and they’re going to be installed near a wall make sure there’s enough distance between the wall and stand to fit the bike lengthwise.

Also a low Sheffield stand for cargo bikes would be useful too, maybe?

I’ve dug this out. This is the setting out we usually work to (from the metric handbook)

Squarer ones are easiest to lock up to I think, but the more rounded ones are still secure so infinitely better than the srupid ones you can only lock your wheel to.

Yeah, stick to the rectangles. Anything else is bullshit really

Function over form every time.

The overstyled ones are harder to use if there’s any more than 1 bike attached to it.

those look fine to me :man_shrugging:

it’s when they’re too fancy ie shaped like a bike or something that they are annoying to use. think those ones would be alright.

I would say no, because the bases of the posts are so close together that you could cut them both with a single angle grinder in one go.

Also, the point of balance is so central that the hoop will be bent over much more easily.

I’d go out of my way to find a Sheffield stand

Anyone here ride a Brompton? May be moving to the mean streets of Upper Walthamstow and reckon it could cut 20 mins+ off my commute. How easy are they to get on the tube? Thinking single speed as flat both ends (and I have mighty road cyclist legs).

Don’t ride one, but sell them. They’re fucking rad :ok_hand:t2:

I’d be fine with them, but would prefer the standard shape

I’m not sure which station you will be travelling from, but Waltham forest have partnered with these guys for Brompton hire, which may be a way to try one out

are people nicking bikes with 9" angle grinders now? even then i can’t see you getting both of those legs in one pass

Great idea and right place, but that’s gonna get expensive quickly as I need it every day.
@anon67149139 let me know if you’ve got any old stock available at a DiScount!

Just rent one for a week to see if it’s any good…? Or try the angle speed v geared version

I meant renting it out for say a week, to see what you think.

Yeah. Even Sheffield stands aren’t immune (although they usually cut through one of the posts with those, so they can slide the locks of).

I want a Brompton.

Can imagine that at peak rush hour you’d get The Brompton Stare but as long as you fold it up properly who cares.

Aye exactly that, no bigger than a typical pull-along suitcase. I’d have one in a heartbeat if I was a city dweller.
