Just commented to my dad about that. He’s very impressed @plasticniki and wants to be updated of your PBP ride. You have a new fan

I’m a bit of a lurker in this thread and only catch up infrequently, but feel the need to say that I have a 2016 Croix de Fer and I absolutely love it. Would be great to hear how you get on. What tyres are you going with?

what are some good cycling books please? (as usual, can’t be bothered to search, sorry).

Pro cycling yes, but I do like Bryson style travelogues as well, I can’t help it. (sorry again)

Have you read the tim moore tour, giro and iron curtain books?

Tour yes, I have Giro on the kindle ready to go but not started.

Giro ones the best.

Iron curtain one is well worth reading too if you like his style.

I did like the Tour one, but being familiar with France a lot of the tales I could tell were…embellished (putting it kindly), more so than with your usual travel writer.

I’ll try the Giro and report back :+1:

I think I have this one on the kindle too
somebody bought a load of cheap books to read on holiday last year and didn’t get round to it.

Ok so in answer to your question - read the many cycling books you already have.

When I was young I used to live in Cambridge. I owned a bike. One Sunday morning I woke up and decided on a whim to go for a ride. I set off, with nothing on me but a bike and my keys. About half way to Ely it started raining. When I got to Ely it was raining and I was hungry. But I didn’t have any money. So I stayed hungry. On the way back I ruined the jeans I was wearing (no mudguards).

Great story.

Fuck Ely.

Good. Typical cambridge arrogance, thinking you can ride to ely and back without ruining your jeans.
