Cables seem intact yes. One seems a bit loose though…

No movement when I press the gears. Chain is on

no movement in either direction? (ie you’ve not gone down to the last gear and there are no more to move to)

the front or the back?

Depending on the type of gears you’ve got, the small lever closest to you might shift the gears one way and the entire brake acts as a lever too and shifts the gears the other way. I found that very confusing when I got my first road bike

Thing is they’re not gears I’ve ever used before. They only seem to go one way

If it were @tilty’s own bike I’d be suggesting the canal, but it’s on loan so it seems wrong to plump for that as a first option

There’s something still wrong. Gears now change on the lever but every fifth rotation of the wheel the chain seems to jump

that’s a twiddle of the barrel adjuster on the rear needed

argh i wish you were closer so you could just pop over

that could be a couple of different things, but like niki says probably just needs a bit more cable tension

^unscrew that thing maybe a quarter turn at a time and see if it helps.

@tilty I apologise for not providing the bike in better order, wish I’d had the time to take it for a spin to see any issues. Feel guilty now you’re having issues :frowning:

It is coming back to me that possibly the little indicator (on the shifter) for the big ring is possibly misaligned to what position it is actually in, but as you only have three rings it shouldn’t be too difficult to remember where you are.
