Christ. Altitude, gales, blinding sunshine, no shade - sounds hideous.

When can I go? :upside_down_face:

Whenever you like. Can recommend a great villa if required, on the edge of Carpentras

Right of passage.

I bonked once on the commute home from work when I’d decided to incorporate a massive gravelly col. Jfc that was awful.

Wasn’t the first, there’s been a few since and certainly not the last!

only properly bonked the once. on a boring route i’ve done a million times about 15km from my house. not particularly hilly or hot or anything. just cruising along fine and then it was like someone flicked a switch and i couldn’t turn the pedals. pretty shite.

must not have had breakfast that day or something idk. got some food down me and was fine.

the worst I’ve ever had it was literally two minutes from my house. I had to leave my bike unlocked outside tesco to go in and buy a coke. felt absolutely horrific.

I probably should’ve eaten more in the afternoon, and probably should’ve eaten the horrid SIS gel I had in arm’s reach when everything started going south. Felt too much like shit to contemplate it though. Nevertheless, I’m pleased I kept going when I really, really wanted to give up and lie down.

I’m having a go at this tonight. I’ll keep some gels within reach. After Alpe I’m not massively keen but a mate wants to do it with me at the same time, and he really struggles with hills, so I’ll give it a go. Expecting around 2hrs30…

Ideally I’d do a morning slot but kids and busy day mean 7pm. Good luck!

same. the events aren’t very frequent are they? i’m sure when they’ve run other tour challenge type things you could get in one every hour pretty much.

dunno if they’re doing it this way so that each ride has a lot more people or what

good luck to you both! I enjoyed it first time I did it, yesterday not so much :upside_down_face:

Self imposed third day of no bike. How do you cope

rubbish, innit? I’ve had hardly any time for cycling these last couple of weeks and it makes me sad. Still, 3 weeks off work means plenty time to catch up

hah. badly. haven’t made it out today because my brain is… Well, not in the right frame of mind :grimacing:

tomorrow is another week though and I have loads of plans. is your knee feeling better at all?

Yes it is thankfully. But determined not to get too excited too quickly as I’m sure the pain would return v quickly if I went out.

Ive made some bike wanker jeans shorts tho

Just got rained on whilst on my bike, it’s been a while since that happened

I have been given a set of Fulcrum Racing Sport CX wheels (disc brake). The… hub (freewheel, or something) at the rear is notchy and its clear it needs attention - it’s not spinning freely and feels rough compared to my Hunts.

Given these are a free pair of wheels I’d like to have a go at servicing them, or replacing whatever needs replacing. I’ve found it quite hard to navigate on the Fulcrum website to the manual I need, but I think I’ve found it and it looks straightforward… ish (can’t link as the link is horrific).

Anyway. Can someone who knows shit about wheels confirm that it’s worth doing this? How do I know if I need a new freehub? The manuals on the Fulcrum website make it look easy to service… Is that the case?

I don’t know anything about fulcrums but it should be easy enough - the challenge with this stuff is usually identifying what bearings you need and then sourcing those bearings . Once you’ve actually got them it should be easy enough

Have a watch of this and see how daunting it is

Servicing freehubs in general isn’t too hard, but follow a video. If you need to get replacement bearings just take them into your LBS and they’ll measure them. They might just need cleaning out and a regrease though
