Ha, I kept saying to my wife how she should get some nice cycling sunglasses and she’s like “but I’m happy just wearing my Goodrs” and I’m like ok sure whatever :joy:

Honestly don’t mind if she’s happy

No sign of my optilabs order yet… I want my polarised lenses!

They’re great. I have quite a few pairs of “proper” cycing glasses, but the Goodrs are the only ones which don’t slip down my nose.

I’ve got a couple of Goodrs. I had one pair on on my last long ride and found they didn’t stay on my nose very well, so I got some cycle specific ones after that. Depends on the person I guess

Right I’m going to do something like this next week (thank you for your suggestions though)

Train out of Manchester to Shrewsbury or somewhere like that (dead cheap/won’t require pre-booking and won’t take long). Then head through the Wye Valley to the Mendips to see a friend and her baby and stay with them at the commune-type place they’re living at the moment (in an old burger van!)

Then to Bristol to see a pal who left Manchester last year, before heading around the Welsh coast to Pembrokeshire & The Gower, before heading back to Aberystwyth to get the train home - or continue up to Bangor if I have time/the weather is not too bad.

Should be about 850km to Aber or 1000km to Bangor. I have a little over two weeks off work so totally doable either way, including a couple of nights with my friends.

Route looks something like this:

Went on holiday to Pembrokeshire and that coast is lovely. Enjoy!

Oooof. This’ll be 10/10.

I’m in the New Forest for a day this weekend, so I’ve just squeezed some 35mm tyres (!) on my best bike to try and get off the road. About 3mm of clearance either side of the tyre at the tightest point at the chainstays. I think it’ll be okay. I’ll ride it to work tomorrow to test it out.

I take it the wheels are pretty true? That was my problem when I stuck 35s on my roadie. I had to true the wheels to stop them rubbing

Yeah, they’re fine. I can’t quite get the rear one to seat correctly but hoping pumping them up to something ridiculous overnight then riding tomorrow will sort it.

Are we seeing the dawn of MTBNIKI

Is anyone following the Highland Trail 550? The guy who’s in the lead is riding it on a rigid single speed MTB and is currently beating both James Hayden and Josh Ibbett. Amazing stuff.

only vaguely, there’s some friends of a friend riding it and he had been posting about it on IG.

looks pretty hard like.

How are you following? DotWatcher?

yep, and various twitter bods

I’ve now done 1000 miles as a bikeist

And, to mix measurements, 1000km so far this year.

I recognise a few people in there. I’ve followed James Hayden for a while Think I saw Josh Ibbett in a couple of docs on GCN?

We watched the latest Jenny Graham doc on the Hebrides last night. It basically consisted of her cycling on some flat, beautiful island roads with no cars around, sleeping on the beach, and then getting stuck on one small island when the ferry got cancelled. Also, all the locals seemed to be trying extra hard to make their accent a bit softer :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I’d love to go up there though

I do know Liam to talk to (his partner is part of our Audax Club, they both are, but she does more on the audax front), he’s a lovely guy and as you can see, a hell of a cyclist. I think he won it previously (maybe in 2016?).

I know of her! Well, I follow her on social media and know she was the first British woman to ride PBP fixed in 2019.
