For a long time I thought Scagden was, you know, a remote place in Scotland or somesuch, or possibly a band name.

It was only today I realised it’s scag den.

Do what I do and chuck em in a quick wash when you get back from a ride… And then go out again the next day with a slightly damp arse because they haven’t dried properly.

I’ve got two pairs of shorts as well, so I’ve no excuse really.

Hmm it seems like people have very different experiences to me with regards to punctures etc but basically it’s very very light off road/ gravel in places. It’s a lovely ride, do it all the time on my gravel bike but I tried it once on a road bike and got punctures front and rear before I hit Whitstable. Can’t remember exact diameters but basically if you’re set up for very light off roading you’ll be fine.

Other thing worth bearing in mind is that if you’re going from Whitstable to Canterbury there’s one section of pretty steep gradient and if that’s tough in your current condition then that’s something to be aware of. Most of it’s very gentle grade but there’s one tough bit.

Ha its neither! I have a fairly exotic surname and this was my mate’s mangled corruption of it from many years ago. Nothing to do with scag honest!

Cool - we’re off to Whitstable / Margate / Canterbury for a week on Sunday and taking the bikes (so any other route suggestions would be very welcome, planning on doing this at least). I’ll likely keep my 35mm tyres on, so no problem there but him indoors wants to take his road bike, so I’ll warn him accordingly. I almost managed to get up a 500m 8% off road climb at the weekend, but it was too rocky so I just pushed for a bit.

Had some twat in a Jeep deliberately spray me with windscreen wash while overtaking me on an otherwise completely empty road. I was fairly central in the lane because the edge was more pothole than surface, but also the road was literally empty.

Joke’s on them, though, because it was actually quite refreshing.

sounds like @plasticniki needs a gravel bike

I’ve done it a few times on a road and had no punctures

Sorry, I could resist! Hahaha

It’s great being a cyclist isnt it?

Realised the other day it probably the only thing in which I’m in the unprivileged and hassled demographic, and it often makes me either rage or feel really sad. god knows how actual persecuted people in society cope

That is a fab ride! I do pretty much that sort of route regularly. Will have a think about other routes and get back to you. Do you have komoot? That’s where I plan mine, don’t know how easy they are to access if you don’t have it?

I do have a Komoot account, yep!

If you’re geared up for mild off road/ gravel would heartily recommend substituting the millennium cycle path from Fordwich to Canterbury for the Littlebourne road stretch.

I live in Ramsgate so I’ve done a lot of cycling round here. That’s a nice route to do but be prepared to do a lot of people dodging on the seafront bit - it’s fine because it’s lovely but be prepared to be patient.

The cycle route (1) out to Richborough/Sandwich is also nice - then if you head back via Staple/Goodnestone is also very nice - not much traffic as the Wantsum channel means none of the road really go anywhere.

Have dmed you cos my rides give away my address!

Might have to revise my opinion of him, given that he hadn’t noticed that the spoke I taped up on my back wheel wasn’t actually connected to the hub, on account of it being broken…

I think you need to go to a better bike shop :grimacing:

Has anyone got any thoughts on Chapeau! jerseys?

I’m after a reasonably-priced summer jersey and this one looks like it does the trick:
