How long are you going for? Get a bivvy bag if it’s just a day or so. I have a £30 Karrimor one and it was absolutely fine for one night

Yeah it is one night! Thirty quid sounds reasonable… Just worried about if it rains.

if you’re sleeping in a wooded area then imo get a hammock with a rain cover. there’s many scientific studies that say sleeping in mid air is better and cooler than sleeping on the floor

cooler :sunglasses:
not cooler

want to get into the hammock game

i worry that i’d wander around for ages trying to find the two perfect trees to sling it between

But you’ll still need a decent sleeping bag though?

If you’re sleeping outside in Britain and the weathers shit, it’s going to be pretty miserable, probably bearable for one night, but still shite. That’s just how it is

Apologies if this has been covered already in this mammoth thread, but I’ve been down a pannier black hole all afternoon. I’m planning on doing a three day ride in September, and will need panniers and a rack that are compatible with each other. I have a B’Twin Riverside 920 hybrid bike with disc brakes, 28 inch wheel diameter, and I don’t really want to spend more than £80-£100. Can anyone recommend anything?

Don’t worry, I’ll be staying in hotels…

I have this rack and it is bulletproof.

Dunno about that specific pannier, but lifeline is wiggle’s ‘own brand’ and generally decent. You could spend double that for vaude or ortlieb and guarantee yourself a pannier for life though…

In general most panniers will fit any rack, its getting the rack to fit the bike frame which is the crucial bit, although most are fairly flexible

Yeah, true. The ~£80 Decathlon bag I have seems decent.

Wait what’s a 28 inch wheel don’t tell me mtb sizes have changed again

:scream:

If you have 27.5 then the rack i posted above will do

If its 29 inch then this one:

If its actually 28 inch, then i have no clue sorry

I’m so clueless about bikes, I’ll have definitely got this wrong. I’ll double check what I have and then order the right one for the size. Ta!

No, you are right, it says 28” wheels…

Sorry, this is out of my comfort range… i would be fairly sure a rack for 27.5” wheel would fit but…wouldn’t bet my bike on it.

(What the fuck is a 28” wheel seriously decathlon you french bastards )

It’s 700c isn’t it???

That’s 29” i thought? But…probably? Can’t think what else it would be.

So fucking french to just arbitrarily change 1 single thing from metric to imperial after spending 200 years (correctly) ignoring the existence of the latter

Ha! That’s annoying init. Probably done it to make me buy all my accessories from them.

Going to get it serviced so will see what the person doing that says.

Would seem so, going by this, right?

Wheel diameter = 28 inches (21-622)

^from the website, the ETRTO is 622 so yeah. 700c. ie same wheel rim diameter as 29" wheels, but i’m guessing they call it a 28" because it’ll be using smaller width tyres than a 29" would usually have so the outside diameter of the wheel will be smaller.

reckon you’d be fine with the 27.5 rack, but you could always e-mail them to double check.

@tilty folk over on LFGSS seem to rate naturehike tents which seem a bit cheaper than others

I’d still go bivvy over tent for just one night tbh, especially if your date is flexible
