yeah just single speed

i’m london based but live at the top of brixton hill - but i mean let’s just call that flat for the sake of argument, my legs could do with the workout

i was looking at maybe this for the rear cog as it’s mad cheap - 16t - would 48t/16t bit a bit tough? really have no fucking idea about this stuff i’m afraid

https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/SKOOSSKK/on-one-singlespeed-converter-kit

i’d say it’s fine.

i have 42/16 and if anything it’s a bit spinny, though it allows me over the horniman hill / college road easily.

48/16 is pretty standard gearing, you’ll be reet. If you were going fixed and gonna be a #skiddiewanker I’d advise against it (because you’d only have 3 skid spots and disintegrate your tyres quickly), otherwise you’ll be golden.

That kit looks decent for the price too, think my lock ring cost about that much 8 years ago…

I’ve used those kits and they work just fine

Only think to watch out for is the width of the free hub on the wheel you have - the on one kit is designed to work on a modern 9/10 speed hub and yours is not

You need different spacers basically

I would deff keep the headset

Beware switching to flat bars

The bike is designed for drops, it will feel very short with a flat bar

I’d also keep the stem, you can adjust the bar height with that kind of stem/ headset anyway slam it baby

I love Emma Pooley

Zoinks!

I like her but she’s a bit too annoyingly good

‘Oh I’m old and overweight now and I didn’t plan or anything and I didn’t take enough water and I bonked and had to stop and oh look I smashed the world record’

Gretchen, stop trying to make Everesting happen! It’s not going to happen!

She totally doesn’t come across like that at all!!!

Currently 23 miles into (an attempt at) a 100 mile ride. Sitting at a cafe at an industrial estate in Mildenhall. Every customer and half the staff are American. Must be some military thing.
I’ll keep you updated.

I practiced jumping this morning. Was good fun

Maybe not , but anyone who accidentally smashes a world record without trying is classed as ‘annoyingly too good’ in my little book , it never happens to me!

What sort of jumping, what sort of bike?

Mountain bike

Was practicing doubles mainly. My confidence has come on loads recently.

i’m too scared to do jumps any more

just end up thinking about all the bones i’m gonna break rather than how cool i’m gonna look

I’m the opposite

I used to be scared when I started riding, but back then any local jumps were massive and scary

In recent years the local trails have gained lots of smaller jumps. Inevitably you find yourself off the ground a bit more and start getting used to it. I can now ride some of the “big” jumps I used to be too scared of

Having a full suss with some decent travel helps with the confidence
