Dads: start up your cars, Peter Gabriel is back!

Not sure about that title. Panopticom not panopticon? Come on man, you’re too old for this sort of thing.

Anyway, sounds actually pretty promising from a first listen. Maybe this new album will be good, although it probably will just make me listen to the old albums more.

He’s playing at o2 soon, very keen to see him but tickets are £200+ I think.

“So” is one of my all-time favourite albums, but I’m totally priced out of those O2 shows. Would love to see him live.

This new song sounds good, will definitely give the new album a go.

Yeah ‘So’ is the one for me although there are some great bits on those first four albums, but I rarely play them all the way through.

yeah me too.

Red Rain, Mercy Street are incredible.
The soundtrack to “Birdy” has more songs in that atmospheric vein if you haven’t heard it?

I was up in the high back for Prince and it was far away but on the other hand it was Prince and I did enjoy the spectacle.

That five album run + Birdy and The Last Temptation of Christ is an all timer but haven’t heard any after I don’t think.

Seeing him live would be great but that price :grimacing:

I remember when he headlined Glastonbury in 1994 thinking that it was rubbish old man music. Now of course, I would be all over it. I am now a dad (and possibly a rubbish old man) however :woman_shrugging:

Always get Peter Gabriel confused with Brian Eno.

Are you saying this specifically because Brian Eno is on this new single or is it just a coincidence?

I had no idea!

Think my mental checklist when I hear either name is “Boring first name, quirky surname… used to be in, but not the main guy of, an arty 80s band… left to do weirder but still widely acclaimed stuff… bald…” Then I have to think for a minute about which one did ambient and which one did womad.

Just saw him wrap his European tour in Dublin. Unbelievably good show, puts acts half his age to shame.

I was amazed at how good he was - I mentioned in the gigs thread but he I absolutely loved his confidence in the new material to build most of the set round it.

Just noticed that copies of the 25th anniversary boxset for So are currently for sale for £50:

It’s still £50 so you can’t say it’s a bargain per se, but when new deluxe releases of albums are like £120 for a 2xLP of the original album and a 12" of outtakes, that’s pretty good value.

New album is great. As it should be when he’s had 20 years to make it.

I was at this as a 22 year old and loved it. Sometimes someone isn’t old man music or young person music, they’re just good.
