His mum committed suicide when he was in his teens I think, naturally had a big effect on him - recall him talking about it in an interview.

I don’t think you ever really properly recover from somebody close to you taking their own life. regardless of how terribly ill that person must have been to be able to contemplate it, the reality is that the people left behind have to deal with the perceived rejection for a long long time.
Poor Dale. RIP big lad.

What a shame, 62 is no age. Like many in the thread supermarket sweep was a favourite hangover tv and he was such a fun host.
And from all accounts he was clearly one of the good guys.

yeah Lee and Herring got him on for a guest appearance on the radio version of Fist of Fun in the early 90s. seemed like a good lad
