Killed my first proper boss, tough fight. Took me a fairly long time to work out what I should be doing which was pleasing.

I’m still to get to that big purple thing. I have got close to it but with little health then. I also waited ages thinking I was summoning help a few days ago. The slow progress and levelling every now and then does feel really Souls like to me. Enjoying it.

The section after the big purple thing is great, the game is really starting to open up now and I have a few quests to complete. Really impressed with how many looping shortcuts they have worked in. Most Souls-like games concentrate on the gameplay mechanics but forget things like the layered world and having short cuts that loop back on themselves but it really feels like they have made a concerted effort in the layout for the world design.

Agreed about the design even though I am still before the purple thing. There were routes I iused to ignore as the enemies were too tough but now I have levelled a fair but I’m running around the whole of the start go the City and know it as well as the area by Drake in DS. Not made much progression as I have a heavy work week hours wise but am fitting in an hour a day at the mo.

The Surge 2 is really tough now. Just past the homeless guy in the tunnel, really can’t push in much further, regular enemies are downing me with ease. I probably need to adopt more of a Souls strategy and level more.

Penny has lured me into her web, doors are opening and the game is now pretty damn great.

I was kind of figuring I’d go through the whole game with the same weapon (Empty INF-Labs Chassis Mk.1, but the kind of shit you can do with the materials is great. Really inventive inventory in this. The parries on tougher enemies is so damn satisfying. It’s not a From game but it’s not far off. Kind of wish From had made a city dwelling dystopian game like this…

Agreed with Surge 2 being one of the Souls-like game I have played. I really like the crafting options as well for building out new armor. You never have to pay to much attention to getting specific obscure materials and you can craft better armor sets at pretty regular intervals. My only issue is I have now opened so many short cuts I forget where they are and sometimes have to just go the long way round anyway when I need to back track.

I loved that mini quest. Didn’t see how that question would end coming despite wondering what all the banging was going from the locked door.

You know what you’ve gone and done with all this Surge 2 talk?! I’ve had another go and got past the warder and now feel like I know what I’m doing - gonna have to continue my PN sub (which runs out tomorrow) ain’t I?!

The Warder is right at the start?

I’m not too deep in and picked it up in the sale (don’t think it’s still on sale). I’m sure it’s worth another month subscription, guess it was on there PS+ before I had it, or I missed the chance to add ot to my library.

I still don’t think I’ve encountered a proper full on Boss yet, not played it today as I had a push in Mass Effect, just finished running around The Citadel and maybe finally I’ve freed the game up to travel properly.

Yeah! I just didn’t know how to parry properly, and then realised, very far in, that it was actually trying to show you how to dodge! Got a few blueprints so building up my armour. The menus are completely confusing to me though. It seems a lot more generous with things than DS - health regen, ‘banking’ its equivalent to souls and all that.

I keep forgetting about Mass Effect - don’t think I ever completed any but they’re totally up my street, so I’m pretty tempted whenever I remember!

I don’t get the menus totally (with The Surge 2) but do feel okay with the general lay out of what I have, etc. I’m sticking with my weapon that I got very early game. The bot attacks are useful and I’m finding the learning curve is the right side of not being frustrating. I will die a lot but I will push on.

Mass Effect I know is decent from playing about 10 hours of the 2nd game on the 360 years back. I’m enjoying it but was getting frustrated at wandering about The Citadel for ages working out where to go in ME1. I’ve kind of figured it out now and when the game gets good - it gets properly good.

Enjoying pushing on in both but perhaps more so in The Surge 2 for now because I’m loving the combat. I like the city setting a lot. From should have seen the game in development, stopped them, bought them out and done it to the real From standard. It’s pretty close anyway and definitely the best Souls-like I’ve played.

I really liked the way the gouger moved but it was pathetic in terms of damage so I’ve moved onto the warder’s weapon. It’s a hell of a lot slower, but I’ll just have to get used to timing the moves, which is much more Souls-like!

The fighting is a lot of fun but the world-building seems pretty lacklustre at the moment, relative to Souls I mean.

You need to get out into space and bounce around some planets in the buggy! I’m trying to think if there’s actually any spacefaring games like it. It’s pretty unique.

You will know it when you get to one. There are a few mni bosses along the way too. I think I have explored three separate areas now and the looping back around and short cuts are still coming thick and fast. It’s definitely the only non From game where I have thought to myself “wait…I am back here again?..I did not think that door would open up back here again!” on several occasions.

I like the fact that there is little commitment to a weapon type or design at the moment, I am chpping anf changing weapons and implant load outs as I go and having a blast trying out new things. Just picked up a new weapon that had me somersaulting over someones back as I chopped his arm off. Very satisfying.

@Cervantes nice to see you jumping back into the game.
