Dark Souls Thread - Phase 3

having played them all for the first time recently…

Demon’s Souls was a pain in the ass but worth a play through to see all the proto souls ideas and it’s only 20 hours ish. DS2 was nowhere near as bad as people made out but it’s also not particularly memorable overall, and something feels off with the balance and design overall. hope you like gank squads! sekiro i couldn’t get on with at all but i’m in the minority there. DS3 is very enjoyable and has elements of bloodborne and elden ring and is very playable.

demons souls → DS2 → sekiro → DS3 imo

From the few hours I’ve put into DeS, DS2 and Sekiro I’m pretty sure that’ll be my order (of preference) too :+1:

although DeS into DS2 could put you off of souls for life

Yeah ain’t doing that. Bailing on DeS until I want to play it out of curiosity in 2035

Reality is, I only have one Souls game in me a year. And I like to play them over winter

So I have got into a habit now of play through 1 being Dex and then play through 2 being some kind of mage and I would probably still recommend that for DS2. If you want to go caster first then just pump plenty of levels into Int. Iirc the joy with DS2 is that there were lots of interesting viable spells you encountered and unlocked as the game progressed and you became a raging badass by mid game (I think it’s slightly easier to level quickly in 2 than the others).

taken as such!

Think it’s one of those where you just keep doing it till you get a good run and win

Dragons are tough in these games but I think this one’s OK. I think it’s the fact it’s optional leaves it to the player to decide if it’s worth it

Pestilent mist (if you can)!

I think I actually hate The Ringed City, especially as it’s one of the best looking areas. It’s just crammed with bullshit. It’s everywhere! I do like the NPC questline though, that’s fun.

I can, I’ve been doing a pyro build. Still need to stay alive for 5 mins to get it done though which is proving a challenge

They’re next on my hit list (if I can actually get to them)! Does the ol’ ‘hanging back by their feet’ technique not help? I can’t actually remember their moveset, just that PM eats away at them pretty effectively!

He’s just pretty smashy and the fire/laser is quite intense too. I’ll get there but I think it’ll be a Fume Knight length of taking a few days

Ringed City is def least fun area I think, been more an infuriating sprinting simulator

That’s that all done then. G almost makes up for the murder gauntlet through the Ringed City…almost! The good thing about it was I was obscenely levelled up for the final big bad and they went down in one. Really love DS3, really love Ariendel, enjoyed the first part and end of Ringed City. Very underrated game.

DS3 has some of the best boss fights of the whole series. Great game.

Unfortunately I’m getting really irritated with my DS3 run. I am trying to do Snowfield the long way but the endless wolves/frost and fire trees and Milwood Knights are just too much. It’s too tempting just to run past everything and then the entire AoA DLC is only just the Friede boss fight really isn’t it? The Corvian miniboss with the crow quills… why would you ever fight this unless you need the weapon?

I think I badly just need a new game away from Souls completely. When’s the next Steam sale?
