Dark Souls Thread - Phase 3

New Londo is prob the best bit of the game but the boss there is an absolute fucker with one of the worst runbacks so i usually go and do a couple of the other new areas first, but its much of a muchness.

Some nice nods to Dark Souls and Elden Ring in Split Fiction.

you need to explore the Forest entirely if you’re looking to complete New Londo

Aye, went there earlier whilst “working” from home, and met Sif. Irritatingly having joined the Cat bros there seems to be no one for the ring to summon me to invade. Probably not a surprise given the games age I suppose

After you beat O&S, did you receive an item from booba in the following room? And did you do anything with it?

Yeh, I got the Lordvessel then got sucked underground by Frampt but thought better of placing it there for now, so boned it to Firelink

You might wanna rethink that last part

Ah. Got to confess I googled whether to do it and it suggested if I did then I wouldn’t be able to meet some other NPC who might want it as well and so would lock me out of meeting a different covenant. Trying to avoid too much spoilering but am always nervous when it comes to big decisions so figured I could always go back to him later if I wanted

The benefits of doing it now outweigh the other benefits for your first play through.

I would try the other way if you do another run. You’re only locking yourself out of a sword, some armor and a different ending as well as PvP action.

If you want these things you’ll need to prioritise Sif and then New Londo. Placing the Lordvessel in one place or another have big benefits for your run either way.

So I went to New Londo Ruins, beat the Four Kings (was surprised at how easymode they were), spoke to Kaathe, denied him, went back to Firelink and spoke to Frampt with the intention of being his mate. Couldn’t see a place Lordvessel option so just jumped in and did it myself and now he’s got the hump too and has disappeared. Locked myself out of either serpent :joy:

You’re getting the full Dark Souls experience then!

I watched this last night:

Supposedly one of the inspirations for Bloodborne. Some nonsense fight scenes and small angry mobs so there’s probably a bit of other inspiration too. There’s absolutely no celestial beings though.

It’s not a good film but you can’t have everything.

Started Demon’s Souls, first of the PS exclusives I’ve not played. Being the first in the series I naively thought there’s probably not much to learn. Where is my flask? Where are the bonfires? How do I level up? What the fuck is world tendency? And I went with the standard knight class, who fat rolls, so now I’m topless.

Looks pretty though.

I couldn’t get on with it at all but my mates all tell me it’s the simplest of the series to fathom

Picked up most of that except the levelling up. Sounds like I need to beat world one boss before I can do that?

Think so. Then you gotta find someone upstairs in the nexus like way upstairs before the maiden will level you

What didn’t you like about it? So far it’s pretty Dark Souls-y. I am missing the bonfires though. Do I need to trek all the way back to the fake bonfires and fast travel back to the Nexus to level up? Like if I have a bunch of souls I don’t want to risk before a boss battle for example.

I beat Phalanx. Probably the worst first boss ever. Dreadful. Wasted all my fire buffs earlier on (rookie mistake) and had to do most of it without. In true Souls fashion the boss and I killed each other at exactly the same time but luckily I didn’t seem to lose anything.

Yeah, or there’s a consumable called Archstone Fragment or something but they’re limited

a lot of the bosses are kind of gimmicky and the runbacks are terrible, but on the whole it’s like the bosses are easier because getting back to them is factored in. i like it, it’s a decent game but there are points where it turns into a horrendous slog. i think i did the same as you and couldn’t wear a full suit of proper armour until like nearly halfway through the game.
