DC Films and Comic thread inc Snyder Cut take

people just hate his directing style/see a lot of right wing allegories in his films (or in 300 at least). don’t think he’s been cancelled or anything.

I dunno, I think it’s super over-stylised but there’s something interesting about that imo (never seen Sucker Punch I should add)

It’s gonna be four hours of headache-inducing garbage, of course I’m excited

Not understanding Watchmen.

Knowing exactly one Leonard Cohen song.

That Martha bit.

He seems like a decent guy and of course what happened to him was beyond awful. It’s just his films are terrible.

Mad racist, ablest, sexist and homophobic overtones in his work. Basically just being a crackpot Ayn Rand freak.

This just kind of makes me pity him tbh.

I will watch? I mean that makes it sound like I’ll make an effort.

But if I were to open up a streaming service I already had a sub for and there was ZS:JL I would probably watch it over several lunch breaks or whatever like The Irishman.

I reckon it will be entertainingly awful.

I’ve not fully enjoyed any of the DCEU films I’ve watched. The best two are the Wonder Woman ones as they are the most coherent and have the most interesting fight sequences, courtesy of good direction and the whip adding an unusual element (see also Captain America using his shield to make lots of punching less dull).

I’ve not seen Birds of Prey, Shazam or Aquaman although the bits I saw of the guy in front of me watching on the plane were every bit as awful as Batman Forever.

Suicide Squad was the only one I had to bail on it was Soooo boring.

I think I’m going to watch it just because I think it’ll be funny. I recently rewatched Suicide Squad to relive the feeling of being in the cinema with 200 angry people at midnight

As far as ‘a movie’ goes I don’t think Watchmen is too bad, though what it cuts from the story is pretty key

Harsh, but fair.

The stuff with the scientists and the squid? I thought making Dr M the fake threat worked better with why he would fuck off tbh.
I remember loads of folks being angry it was too reverential.

Very good tbh.
Not seen birds of Prey but heard good things.

I mean I’ve also heard very bad things about BoP.

I’ve definitely heard good things about Shazam but watching (essentially) another body swap comedy isn’t really something I’m hyped up about.

And Aquaman? The stuff I saw, as I say, just looked awful, real tonal weirdness. Maybe sound and dialogue will pull it together I suppose.

Aquaman has Dolph Lundgren riding a giant seahorse.

Edited to clarify for any future people who are confused about whether that’s an awesome thing or a really awesome thing.

It had some good bits but overall I’d actually say it was more ‘dully functional’. Sorry Marty, I loved ‘Pretend it’s a City’.

I’m thinking mostly of the bit with the doctor who treats Rorschach and to a lesser extent the pirate comic (certainly unfilmable).

To be honest it is too reverential in many regards, taking panels from the comic and turning them into a movie is a bit lacking in imagination imo.

Then again I think the Watchmen TV show failed as well in many regards despite being a real departure, not least it’s confused political message (and I thought the last episode was awful)

I don’t think you can win with adapting Watchmen, as the medium of the comic is so much a part of the story. I think the film is cool to watch as an action movie, enen though it smoothes out a lot of the themes of the comic or just misinterprets them altogether.
