dont really get why they’re rebooting it and that guy seems worse than ron perlman but looks like it might be quite good anyway i guess? i love hellboy anyway. and sasha lane’s in it :+1:

genuinely think this has great potential

Was gonna be a #3 but del Toro wasn’t interested and Ron Perlman didn’t want to do it without him.

All I knew about Roma before I went in was that it was semi autobiographical for Cuaron. Started to suspect pretty early on that his perspective was that of the middle class kids. I couldn’t shake the idea that this was his kind of fantasy about poverty and the dignity of the working class. I definitely agree with the general sentiment of this article:

A brilliant technical achievement but not sure it’s any more than that.

  1. Why have they made Hellboy look so weird?
  2. Why does this look so shit in general?

:slightly_frowning_face:

on the plus side, it has big mo from eastenders in it

See point 2.

how dare you, she’s east end royalty

roma and free solo both had people doing that standing on one foot, Christmas tree pose. don’t remember seeing that in a movie before and then in consecutive movies I saw beware people who do that move, by the looks of it! from free solo “i’m like a warrior”, uurggh. that film was manipulative, showing him falling off with rope two or three times at a certain point and not showing him make it past there with ropes. guessing that he cleared it maybe 100+ times and they didn’t show any of them, or even mention them, just showed the two times he failed to ratchet tension.
free solo is a good companion-watch to ‘the deminer’…

Also didn’t feel that the shift in tone with the incredibly traumatic stillbirth was deftly pulled off.

And why in the hell were they not clearing up those huge quantities of dogshit? I have a lot of questions about the dogshit. Was the dog shitting in vast quantities or were they just leaving it for days at a time?

Not really buying these criticisms about Roma that it’s some middle class guy patronising his childhood maid, seems like every time someone makes a film with a working class protagonist people start complaining about ‘poverty porn’ and patronising the characters and the like. Unless it’s Ken Loach in which case it’s misery porn. I don’t know, I guess I thought it was pretty nuanced in the end, with the contrasting ways Cleo was treated at times

is a theme appearing in three movies in one year a trend? men putting their lives in danger, these as well as ‘the rider’. one of the nice things about that one was that he learned to step away from the danger
think it might not have been appropriate to have the free solo guy giving a talk to kids.

Watched Passengers.

Actually had potential to be an interesting film but they ruined it with the last third. Lovely to see Andy Garcia for literally 15 seconds

I watched Love Actually for the first time last night because I was sick and dear god.

Oh also saw National Lampoons Christmas Vacation which was great

Would be destroyed by the press if it was released now. There’s at least five or six examples of men being horrific

Don’t think a single woman is given character development except Emma Thompson who then has her live torn apart. Festive!
