The first one was exactly my sort of thing so I’ll happiky watch this but it does seem very … unnecessary.

Yeah exactly how I felt too. The payoff might have been good but I was so bored by the build up that I just zoned out. Looked lush though.

Just watching A Few Good Men for the first time now. Exactly what I wanted for tonight, such an easy watch and pretty engaging. That cast also, damn.

I really enjoyed The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.

Yes:

I thought Mandy was an absolutely gorgeous film visually speaking, and definitely one of those films you need to see on the big screen. However, the day before I saw it I’d been having some conversations about women being killed off as a plot device for the man’s story, and having that in mind kind of ruined it a bit for me.

I was at least halfway through the film before I realised that he wasn’t Michael Fassbinder

Ha. I knew his name, but couldn’t remember anything he’d been in, until I checked his Wikipedia page and saw that he was Pollox Troy in Face/Off.

(to bring the conversation back full circle to Nic Cage films…)

A few good men is good, love the opening sequence of the army lads spinning their guns.

Yeah that was pretty mesmerising! I’d just watched a few youtube videos on focus and zoom and depth of field, so that whole sequence was a perfect illustration of those things.

Also any film is greatly improved by the presence of JT Walsh.

Ralph Breaks the Internet - definitely not as good as the first one, and maybe the weakest Disney animated film in the last decade. Still decent though, the Ralph/Vanellope stuff is very sweet and the Disney princess gags are funny (sure it’s Disney plugging themselves, but at least they’re entertaining about it)

Disobedience

Very well acted but I struggled to care that much about the characters, always felt it was keeping the viewer at arm’s length. Weisz’ character is pretty underwritten too, got unreasonably irked when she checked in for a flight to the US in what was clearly Stansted airport.

Oh and I watched it on a train and there was one scene where I was blocking my screen from view (You will know if you’ve seen it) and it goes on FOREVER.

Following up last year’s best films poll with another one. Get involved y’all

The Favourite completely ran away with the competition at the British Independent Film Awards:

I’m sold on this. Can’t see the unrated version coming out in the UK by the looks of things though?

The trailer I saw a few weeks ago was excellent. Excited for

I thought this was going to be straightforward rerun of the first one but it seems like they’re developing the concept somewhat? I’ll probably watch it.

No idea. I saw it at a festival here in Norway so no clue about UK distribution

Caught up on so many 2018 films in the past fortnight. Ratings out of 10:

9 Isle of Dogs
9 Thoroughbreds
8 American Animals
8 First Man
8 Journeyman
8 You Were Never Really Here
8 They Shall Not Grow Old
7 Christopher Robins
7 Mission Impossible Fallout
6 Crazy Rich Asians
3 Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Solid level of quality. Phantom Thread is still my favourite of the year, but nothing in 2018 will trouble my top 100 of all time, unless something like Roma delivers big.

Possession of Hannah Grace. The second film I have walked out of. Absolutely awful
