I think Bait is very good, and, it isn’t particularly bad in any way but I think people have gotten carried away with bigging up the style of it. Yeah it’s a great style but it’s also a little pretentious.
The plot/characters aren’t all that deep (gentrification is bad, rich people are selfish, etc). It’s really blunt in its politics up until the ending, which seemed ambiguous for ambiguousness’ sake… I like ambiguity but it didn’t feel cohesive to me - the final moments felt tacked on.
I agree with all the points its making and it’s a cool film that I’d recommend to everyone, but it’s not as daring, original, or ambitious as some people say it is
Well excited for what the director does next though.
If I was gunna go for an arty slice-of-life British class drama from the decade The Arbor would be no1.
