In the good-cop/bad-cop world of British politics it is important to remember that both of these men are indeed very much both cops

in the 70s buddy movie you got the incompetent racist cop modernised by the by the straight laced systemic cop, the worst film never made

We’re all centrist neocons now! Go about your business, citizens (white rich citizens)

I can’t even enjoy running with this analogy I’m afraid. As someone who has enjoyed the Freedom of Movement & broadening of horizons of nearly 20 years living and working in France & Sweden I am way too angry at the rights and the joy these cunts have taken away

fucking shitshow

Don’t worry though, I’m sure all these people will magically decide to switch their support to Starmer before 2024

The bleakness hatred and cynicism I have for this country is really starting to affect me. I don’t know how to carry this poison in me for decades to come :frowning:

I guess the only answer on a basic level is to be good to the good people you know, and to show the values you believe in personally in your interactions with others. Not everyone has the ability or capacity to go beyond that - I don’t, for example! Those one-on-one interactions are what make up your day and those of the people you meet, so you can make people’s day better, brighter, and more caring on that level. We have to care for ourselves, each other, and the things we hold dear. It’s the only way.

What a surprise

Johnson discovered the art of being ā€˜across the detail’ on xmas eve did he?

:joy:

There are both non-EU programme countries and non-EU partner countries that participate in the Erasmus programme and I’m sure the UK will join their ranks at some point. No need to shit the bed just yet.

Why are you sure?

(Also although I literally don’t trust anything the Uk government has said since about 2001, ā€˜we are leaving the eu and the Erasmus programme’ does not fill me with confidence that what they actually mean is ā€˜we’re gonna rejoin the Erasmus programme’)

There are language students now halfway through their 2nd year of a 4 year course, already struggling through home learning and covid related shite.

Their 3rd year is due to be a year abroad and could start as early as august 2021. It’s a massive part of their degree where the majority of their knowledge is acquired.

The vast majority of students will do this as an ā€˜Erasmus’ at a european university. Their other options would be to teach at a European school, which (although I haven’t checked) I now imagine would require at least some of extra paperwork and/or visa, or to find a work placement/internship at a private firm. there’s no way that is as simple to organise now as it would have been before.

Are those students allowed to shit the bed?

or should they just continue to pay their 9 grand a year fees and relax safe in the knowledge that ā€˜something will be sorted out’?

If countries like Albania, Ukraine and Syria (no offense to those countries) are participating in the Erasmus programme I’m sure the UK will at some point.
