Yeah Netherlands is a better comparison to Sweden as we both have Proportional Representation and that’s likely a far stronger factor in turnout compared to the UKs FPTP/Winner Takes All system

Sunday still wins though

I know, I live here. Having the elections on Sundays makes things easier for people though. You still have to find the time to get to the polling station and vote.

Any predictions on how this will impact things?

Probably barely worth voting, from a purely strategic point of view, in the majority of seats in the country, isn’t it?

In my Tory stronghold, I just hope to see Labour chip away at them bit by bit, so that maybe, one day, for the first time in history, the seat will change hands.

and despite voting being mandatory in Belgium and not in Sweden the difference is fairly negligible - 87.2% compared to 90%

Wonder what the UK would look like with a 90% turnout & Proportional Representation ?

I think a weather forecast for nine days away should be ignored.

It’s December. It’s going to be chilly, dark and miserable, maybe rainy. Can’t remember the last time there was any significant snow in London mind.

Sure - but people in those demographics also make up the majority of those working weekends.

Plus, there’s no or very little public transport in much of the country on Sundays.

Advantage Labour on get out the vote as well - we’ll have the numbers to help our voters out to the polling stations.

We’re just trying to organise a team Christmas lunch and I’m pushing for Friday 13th on the basis we’ll all have stayed up all night watching it so actual work will be a write off.
