If anyone wants to vote Labour but is worried about their local candidate’s position on trans rights/gender recognition, I heard about this interesting idea. Someone I know who’s local candidate has signed up to a TERF-y campaign posted a pic of their postal ballot on facebook. They put a T in the Lab candidate’s box and wrote next to it - “I want my vote for to count for Labour but I strongly oppose [candidate]'s position on gender recognition”
Apparently this means it will be questioned at the count, and the candidate will have to openly argue that the vote should be counted for them and therefore to justify her position publicly.
note: I haven’t educated myself about trans/gender issues as much as I think I should have, so I don’t know if this is a good thing to do per se, just thought it might be interesting to some.
