Deftones (plus new Crosses in 2023)

No, they were awful I thought. Wikipedia says they are a hardcore band?!?

Haha fair enough, much like Turnstile they started as a hardcore band but are now a much more melodic post-punky thing, I wasnt too keen on their most recent album where they’ve made a clear effort to sing for the fences but everything else they’ve done is excellent. I can see why though in the context of a big stage show supporting Deftones and Weezer and you’re not familiar with them it may come off as a bit jarring as it’s not their natural environment.

Shame in a way really if it doesn’t pay off for them

they sound like a school band

High vis supported Deftones at Halifax piece hall.
They were very good. Likewise when I saw them support turnstile a couple of years ago at Manchester.

I am a High Vis fan - thought their gig in Brixton was better - didn’t quite translate somehow in the way I thought it would in the late afternoon sun …Deftones were incredible - loved it and have now put to bed my regret for leaving their Primavera set half way through to 50/50 with Pulp…I don’t think Sunny Day Real Estate will be beaten this year for me but i’d have that on par with the Slowdive gig which is saying something given my fanboy status of the latter

So what’s with this Private Music thing on the 10th July?

Seen some talk about it actually being 7th October because they did the numerals in American.

That would make sense, although oddly far off to tease. I’m just hopeful we get new music this year.

Something’s dropping at 11pm UK time tonight. There’s a brief snippet on their IG

Probably called My Mind Is A Mountain

New song is Deftones by numbers but enjoyable.

Yeah it’s decent. Really like how melodic all the interplay is, and the chugging doesn’t sound tacked on, which has been a problem for them on recent albums I feel.

Now that we have a reference track, it’s quite fun to run through the rest of the track namess and try and work out which are the throat-blisteringly heavy tracks and which are the weird/ethereal ones.

Marking down CXZ as an absolute banger.

‘Cut Hands’ will be the Dreampop/ Shoegaze one.

Never really connected with Ohms for some reason, but enjoying this new one.

Hmm actually never listened to Ohms, just two tracks apparently, and played Gore once.

Album should be called White Snake.

Ohms is really good, but I say that as a fan of the chuggy riffs. Radiant City is excellent.

Edit: just checked - and Urantia, which is the track this new one most reminded me of
