they’re past due for that but just don’t think it’s on the cards for them, it would never see the light of day

This is great. It’s very immediate, which I’m often a bit distrustful of, but it’s only immediate because it sounds so much like the best bits of everything they’ve ever done.

Spell of Mathematics and Genesis stand out on a first listen.

Closest we’ll get to all of that is this Black Stallion remix album, I’d say. Problem with that type of project though, is we already know those songs too well.

Enjoyed it more on second listen, which was probably as I was able to pay attention more on second listen. Some of the riffs on the latter part of the album in particular are very grin-inducing.

It’s just nice to hear a Deftones album not sounding like tinny shit again. Chino’s vocals are a little less shrill than on the last couple as well - not as separated or something?

ahh man i’m won over.

Had 1 1/2 listens earlier in the day walking/working and enjoyed it. Now 3/4 of the way through, totally baked and it’s great :yum: best one since white pony at the moment. Carpenter in particular sounds HEAVY

Good work lads.

I’ve had it on all day, pretty much. Keep coming back to ‘Error’. That chorus is probably the most melodic thing I’ve ever heard them do. There’s a really nice guitar line over the top too which is quite buried, but it sounds great. The ending is amazing too.

Another vote for that ending!

This is honestly one of their best records isnt it? Melodic and heavy - perfect lenghth - no filler - great ending

Not had a chance to give the new one a proper listen yet but would just like to say I really like Gore now. The title track especially is such a pummelling chugfest :metal:

Really like this but, as with most Deftones albums, can only really manage it in small doses. I can get through two or three tracks at a time and really enjoy them but at the same time find myself itching to listen to something different.

I’d say Prayers/Triangles is top tier Deftones. Gets stuck in a loop in your head forever when you listen to it! Geometric Headdress is pretty high up the rankings for me too. I struggle to listen to the album in its entirety though.

I never knowingly listened to Deftones until, well, yesterday. I guess I associated them with Limp Bizkit etc. or was generally too much of a music snob. Anyway, I am quite enjoying this new album and should probably delve into their back catalogue.

I would’ve completely agreed with you about a month ago but the mid and latter thirds have finally clicked. Still a couple tracks I’m indifferent about but the rest are good to very good

Probably about time I revisited it! There’s quite a few songs I just don’t remember.

Recommend playing it from about halfway through so your focus is off the great songs at the start
