It’s true that it’s unhelpful to demand money from the user who wants their posts deleted, but if they were a regular is there any way you could ask for something towards the costs? Especially if you mention how in dire straits the site already is. Surely they’re not totally heartless.

It’s rubbish to think the whole site and these forums might end as a result of one person, really. But they are within their rights to request it I guess

well, quite. it’s open to interpretation.

It is very broad and includes user generated content, hasn’t been tested yet (request wasn’t me)

The How Good… music and TV threads seem to be getting featured on Google front pages and attracting new users. Don’t know if that works as a moneymaker tbh.

honey came in and she caught me red handed

  • Personal data is information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.
  • What identifies an individual could be as simple as a name or a number or could include other identifiers such as an IP address or a cookie identifier, or other factors.
  • If it is possible to identify an individual directly from the information you are processing, then that information may be personal data.

Glad that clears things up …

we could just repost the old threads verbatim onto the new site. everyone just post the same thing you posted the last time.

do a couple every day. might take us about a week or so?

Always hard to tell from stuff like this, some of gdpr is an update of data protection act and so personal info has those specific meanings, but the right to be forgotten is new bit which seems aimed exactly at this kind of request

I think it’s tough to say “make them pay” without knowing the reasons that they want stuff deleted. Though if they’re one of the hrtcreeps wanting to hide their weirdness I’d think differently.

One of you must be some kind of SEO consultant who knows a good way of transferring old SEO juice to the new site, or at least coming up with a strategy to replace the lost fish SEO.

thought that’s what we were doing??

Yeah the assumption is that it is a bad person with something to hide, I’ve always thought the amount of sharing of personal experience (which is good at the time) can cause a lot of anxiety in the long run, the stalking potential is also huge, maybe people shouldn’t post anything they would be uncomfortable to be out there for ever but then it might not be as good a place

Deliberately don’t look at links to the old threads on account of having changed quite a lot as a person/fear of embarrassment/unwarranted shame so would be happy for them to b gone

Happy for them to be deleted, at this point keeping them online seems like more trouble than it’s worth.

Think I’m lucky that I was basically a music board user that lurked on the social board for all those years. Didn’t make any/many posts expressing my absolute weirdness*, so feel a bit bad for all those who know they posted stuff that they now wouldn’t be that happy with (within reason since some of it was always terrible, but people have got to have space to grow)

(*all my weirdness was on Tinychat anyway)

finger to forehead

Can’t be embarrassed by old posts when I only signed up this year

I didn’t post a great deal on the old forums but they can go as far as I’m concerned.
