Much more convenient, and no I don’t care about your nostalgia but I admit I am unsure as to the environmental effects of using plastic as opposed to glass.
My neighbours growing up has a big argument over dinner which resulted in someone banging an old-style glass ketchup bottle down on the wooden dining table, leaving indentations in it. This became known in their house at The Tomato Ketchup Incident and as far as I’m concerned is another good reason to switch to plastic bottles (sorry environment).
Remember when they started using foil packets for crisps? I cant really remember what they were before. Plastic, obvs, but I cant recall what they were like.
My other half’s mum (who we still live with – thanks Covid) stands the new-style bottles (which are infinitely better) the wrong way around in the fridge, so the ‘top’ is at the top, rendering the whole exercise useless, and making designers worldwide weep uncontrollably. And me, trying to get ketchup out.
Tbf I’ve had some own brand ketchup that copy this design leak a bit when placed the ‘correct’ way.
The real benefit imo is the squeeze action of the bottle rather than beating a glass bottle of ketchup to a pulp.
