Remember a shop in Luton that got confused and added the 1 at the end of the area code, not after the 0. Uh oh!

My da still does this. He would yell at me and my sister if we didn’t

the pages kind of had “steps” on them, or were different widths or something

I do know that if 7 year old Tim fucked around with it it stopped working properly

My dad still does this. Sometimes when I call and he answers I repeat the number as well at the same time and we have a right old laugh.

My work tel no. end 010 the number to dial to get into tale conferences is the same no except 001, get about 10 wrong numbers, at least, a week.

I still get irked at people who believe that 0207 and 0208 are area codes.

my grandparents had exactly this one when I was a kid

the whole thread is giving me major flashbacks as it goes. I first learned my Grandparents number when I was 6 ‘in case of emergencies’ like. Haven’t called it for 20+ years but @bugduv’s mere mention of 061 up there automatically dialed 061 434 1237 in my head

Also, I once won a fair amount of money on a quiz for correctly answering the tie-break question “Which TV show is based in the fictional village of Darrowby?” which I only knew because they always used to answer the phone “Darrowby 385”

They had the film of that on over Christmas. Never seen it but I did not realise that Anthony Hopkins was in it. Don’t know why that surprised me so much but there you have it.

Yes they did, and my parents. When we moved from Bristol to the sticks in the Forest of Dean in 1978 we initially had a 3 digit phone number, “Tintern 467” was my mother’s preferred way of answering.
