Unfortunately a brita won’t do much for bacteria. It’ll remove some heavy metals etc but UV would maybe be a better bet. I think that’ll set you back over a grand though.
You could a lifestraw bottle/pitcher, they’re supposed to filter out 99.99% of bacteria. Don’t know how that stacks up against the britta

Fwiw (different water company but) I think they quite aggressively chlorinate the water as part of the treatment so the bacteria should be dealt with. And the Brita will sort the chlorine out

Thames Water has been put into ‘special measures’ (they have to report more information to Ofwat), and it looks like it s trebles all round for the shareholders of the water companies in general
