DiS Beer Wankers 2019

10 taps of gypsy Hill and 10 taps of North at my local this evening.

Tomorrow will be fun…

I genuinely could not believe how bad this beer was. Up there with that Old Blue Last beer as absolute swill.

Having a lunchtime wander and notice that Beer Hawk are about to open opposite Smithfield. Where Charterhouse used to be. Peered in the window - had a few nice bits. Might be handy.

Going to Sutton Arms tomorrow at lunch as I see White Hag have a tap takeover thing on.

Beer Hawk the mail order company? They’re a fucking shambles. Had far too many bad experiences with those idiots. Alas, I’ve got a Perfect Draft machine so I’m pretty much stuck with them for at least some of my beer-buying :frowning: :unamused:

They really shouldn’t be a shambles seeing as they’re part of AB InBev.

Saw on Twitter they’re opening by Smithfields, didn’t they also open a place on the South Bank? Not sure if it’s still there.

Well, they’re by far the most incompetent web retailer I’ve dealt with in 20 years of internet shopping.

Yeah still there, by Blackfrairs station (south entrance). Bought my brother in law some beer glasses for a secret santa and popped in to collect them.

Yeah, those guys. I’ve only ever used them once I think…

There’s a real dearth of places to get nice take out beers round this way, so can see myself popping in now and again as I’ve basically exhausted Tesco, Waitrose and Borough Wines.

I’m sure they’re marginally competent enough to sell you beer face-to-face without something going wrong, but they sure as hell can’t manage it through the mail…

Now you mention it, I just remembered my mate having all his Xmas beers delivered to his Mums from Beer Hawk and they ended up sitting in a warehouse for the entire festive period.

Yup, that happened to me that last Xmas:

Ordered a case of beer on the 17th of December, no sign of anything by the 22nd so phoned up and asked WTF? “Oh, your order took two days to reach the warehouse for some reason, but by then some of the beer you ordered had gone out of stock, so now they’re waiting for the rest to come back into stock before sending it out.” Ordered cancelled, no posh Xmas beer for me (I live in a very rural spot on an island, so I can’t buy good beer anywhere local).

Just last week:

Ordered two cases of beer on Tuesday morning for a “do” the following Sunday. Still no word by Friday - once again, the order never actually reached the warehouse. Finally got the beer a couple of days ago, far too late for its purpose.

Also, my brother-in-law liked my Perfect Draft machine so much he ordered one on Boxing Day so that he’d have it in time for his mates visiting for Hogmanay. Two kegs arrived on the 3rd of January, the Perfect Draft machine arrived on the 4th and (bizarrely enough) a second Perfect Draft machine arrived on the 5th. He was so pissed off he kept the second machine to sell on…

I allegedly live in a “Highlands and Borders” postcode location according to their system (even though I practically live in the bloody Central Belt, albeit on an island next to it!), which either throws their entire logistics service into meltdown or makes them think “ah fuck it, we’ll leave that one for next week”. I have no idea how they can offer UK mainland addresses next-day delivery yet so consistently fuck up orders to my part of the world. They’re an utter shambles :imp:

Haha - bloody hell.

My mates order was to east London, so it’s clearly a nationwide thing.

Bloody hell. Christ knows what their bottle shops and bars will be like then :see_no_evil:

Double chubbles!

And some other nice beers too

Had some new Br****g beers for the first time in an age tonight.

Sheena: Collab with Verdant. Disappointingly thin given who they’d partnered up with. Tasted like a toned down version of 101 beers Brewdog have already brewed.

Juicy IPA: Complete misnomer of a name. It was a slightly boozier Punk IPA, and not good.

Paradox Islay: They can still brew an impy. Chewy as fuck and pretty tasty, but hard to get through a 1/3rd.

I don’t really get what the bars are for anymore tbh (and I worked in/ran two of them for nearly 7 years).

The main reason for heading into their bar was to pick up these gifts from some Vermont pals mind, so I’m not complaining.

Pretty oversaturated themselves. For instance, I have absolutely no idea why there is a Brewdog bar in Southampton, for instance. There’s a thriving micropub scene there, but the BD bar is tiny and tucked away never actually been in. Unfortunately, they do some good guest beers occasionally.

Had the 2016 paradox islay when the release it. Thought it was great. Who knew

Yeah. We used to joke way back when about Brewdog becoming the Nandos of craft beer. That was when there were about 10 bars. Well…

The Islay was really good as I said, but it’s easy to hide behind a big boozy barrel for character on a huge beer. Their pales/IPAs have nosedived dramatically in the last couple of years.

I’ve not bothered with them for a while. Nice option in the local corner shop or non beer pub, but with the range most specialist places have, they’ve become a bit redundant.

But like most things, their bars are a familiar option if your in an unfamiliar place
