DiS best films of 2018 poll

Thought I’d give this another go after last year’s successful effort. It feels like there’s less of a consensus about the best films so far as well, so will be interesting to see how the results end up!

I’m looking for your top 5 films of 2018, going by the general UK release date, ordered like this:

1 - 1st Place
2 - 2nd Place
3 - 3rd Place
Etc.

Any Netflix or streaming films are fine, as is putting fewer than 5 films if you really want to. Also no “joint firsts” please, I’ll just take the first 5 films you list and score them accordingly.

I won’t be doing the results until the start of the new year so there’s no rush.

Merry filming! :film_projector:

Is this via DM or in the thread?

Thread it up

Yes please

Still a lot to catch up on and a few still not yet released (Roma, Sorry To Bother You, Poppins, Spiderverse), but so far a rough top 10 looks something like this:

  1. Mission Impossible: Fallout
  2. Phantom Thread
  3. You Were Never Really Here
  4. Cold War
  5. First Man
  6. Shoplifters
  7. Coco
  8. Climax
  9. Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again
  10. Widows

Honourable mentions to Blockers, Lady Bird, Blackklansman, Leave No Trace.

Worst films:

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, The Meg, Fantastic Beats: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

I fucking love lists pals.

Gonna sleep on this until I see Roma.

These threads always hammer home how bad I am at remembering which year things came out

Yeah I’d have no ideas if I didn’t use Letterboxd

Leave No Trace is the best film of the year.

Please watch this before voting lest you embarrass yourself forever.

It’s the only film I’ve seen twice in the cinema this year!

What did you not like about it? At what point did you leave?

A Fantastic Woman
Loveless
Climax

Everything from Paris onwards was brilliant, but yeah, the last half hour was the most fun I’ve had in a cinema this year.

Pfft, it’s no Paddington 2…

The film received universal critical acclaim, with praise for the performances of Foster and McKenzie, and, after Paddington 2 , it is the second-most reviewed film to hold an approval rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
