Struggling with choosing a really Christmas feeling veggie main that R will like, as he’s a vegetarian now. Nutroast was a no from him, so will have to go pastry covered something or other but Wellingtons always look such faff and I haven’t found one that looks like it would be liked by everyone (too many mushroom ones and mushrooms are a no)

Me and my partner (mainly her tbf) make this every year. It’s phenomenal

Local vegetarian restaurant does nut roasts to order so we always get that

Not a fan of nut roasts or mushrooms in our family so this is a bit of a nightmare. Going to raid this thread for ideas.

Feel like I’ve posted this before, but here is the recipe that I normally make for myself and have all the sides etc that the rest of the family have. I’m going to keep them on as a side dish for this year, but want to branch out for the main dish.

Have just run it through google translate. I’ve customised it a little bit over the years (generally just more spices tbh), they’re great with gravy and roast veg and what have you.

Xmas is the one time I allow myself to have violife cream cheese. Spread it on crackers, chop a lil chive, sprinkle on top, some black pepper, mm mm mm. In normal times the calories and the ££s are not letting me do that.

Kimchi brussel sprouts

They look delicious. What is dl an abbreviation for? Wasn’t sure if it was grams/ounces/something volume-based.

Ahh! Yeah it’s for decilitre, ie. a tenth of a litre. This is why I always struggle with UK recipes…

could make your own seitan and then flavour that accordingly… like a peppered steak or turkey thing :man_shrugging:

the Quorn “roast” is not bad either, although I’d feel silly placing it out on a table and slicing it like it’s a dead bird

Never heard of that used before! So 100ml, that’s easy enough with a jug and nice and precise unlike the vagueness of cup measures, I can get on board with that.

Definitely want to give these a try when I feel more up to cooking

Yeah exactly! Love our precise measures.

I’m trying to remember what I do differently for them, drop me a line if you do ever want to cook them and I’ll give you some tips!

I think this year we are going to make this again as a side, just for variety

Hehehe butts

last year I got a readymade non meat wellington thing, it was nice if really expensive and probably more unhealthy than meat.

i like the idea of making something myself so will too be keeping an eye here, I’ve never had a nut roast!

in all probability though this year’s christmas will be pizza for one, wine for six

Think I might go for this one!
