I’ve not seen the first 4 Cleos but I’ll give it a go!
This is a great idea! Here’s my list of intentions for 2026!
1 Eyes Without A Face
2 The Master
3 Fanny et Alexander
4 The Appartement
5 Saint Maud
6 Double Indemnity (Billy Wilder)
7 Les Quatre Cents Coups
8 Caché
9 The Lives of Others
10 All that Jazz
11 Wake in Fright
12 La Haine
All new to me except La Haine which I haven’t seen in ages.
My only cheat is that technically I should watch Spinal Tap but I don’t like spoofs and I ain’t gonna.
Prioritising some french films cos it really helps with my language learning (je peux essayer de regarder sans sous titres peut-être )
Beaucoup de bangers dans votre list
Merci.
Was so sure this was gonna be a zero reply thread. Yay!
I get decision paralysis cos there are so many damn films out there and having made this list makes me feel really happy that next time I’m choosing a film I’ve got a limited set to choose from. Great idea, really looking forward to giving these a go ![]()

Oh god. Please watch that and Gremlins back-to-back.
yah I’ll do this, more manageable
It’s been recorded off BBC 4 on my Freeview box for about a decade. I need to do this.
It’s quite upsetting, enjoy!
first draft, given myself options to make it more likely I keep up with this. May redo to push myself to try stuff more outside of my defaults tastes
- Eyes Without a Face / Brief Encounter / 12 Angry Men / The Apartment
- Punch-Drunk Love / Cache / This is England
- The Shop Around the Corner / Tokyo Godfathers
- Before Sunrise
- Under the Shadow / The Skin I Live In
- Cache / Melancholia
- Wings of Desire (hopefully in cinema)
- The Departed
- The Lives of Others
- The Assassination of Jesse James / Moonlight / Ginger Snaps
- Sorcerer / The Wild Bunch
- Sunset Boulevard / Ikiru
haven’t seen first two options for 1, and second two would be long-awaited rewatches
there’s two chances to catch Wings of Desire in cinema in a week’s time and I’ve meant to see it for years, so hopefully that one is a cinch
The Departed would be a first rewatch for me and flatmate never seen it, feel that’ll be a blast to watch together
Meant to see Jesse James for easily a decade so this challenge will be a good reason to finally commit. But also need to bully flatmate into finally seeing Moonlight, and again would be a first rewatch since seeing in the cinema for me
Just watch both
