First post update for new readers.

How would you like to join a wonderful group of 11 beloved DiSers (and wiggo) for a long weekend on the Welsh Coast in a nice big house? Join us for walking, swimming, board gaming, music playing, cooking - whatever you feel like!

There are two spaces left (twin rooms so you must be okay sharing)

Pick up / drop off available from Haverfordwest train station. I’m driving down from the North East so if you’re in the North I can probably give you a lift for part of your journey.

The accommodation cost is £111 per person and doesn’t need to be paid until April. If you’d like to come and the cost is an issue then let me know and I’ll see if we can work something out.

The idea: DiSers rent a large house somewhere rural in England, Scotland or Wales and hang out, relax, go on walks, play board games/sport/music, do crafting, communal cooking/dining - whatever you feel like.

There may not be enough interest to make this viable, but I think we would probably need to provisionally book somewhere in the next couple of months if looking at a large property so worth a go.

This is super tentative at this point, so I’ll keep polls anonymous.

Seeing as long weekend looks to be the most popular option, how are we defining it?

  • Friday - Sunday (2 nights)
  • Saturday - Monday (2 nights)

Found a great property that is really affordable and right (I mean right) next to a tiny little cove perfect for swimming, BUT it would mean getting to Haverfordwest (15 min drive from station), which I’m guessing will be too far / expensive for a weekend trip?

Can’t find anything else remotely as good, but will have a look at other websites.

So annoying that everywhere seems to be full payment rather than deposit now. Bloody flaky millennials/greedy landlords.

I can probably front 5 places on the assumption someone will take them up at some point.

If we had 14 people it would be just over £30 per person per night, £100.07 for the three nights. So if we could get 9 people to commit/pay we’d be in a position to book.

Those prices are for the last two weekends of May and the first weekend of June by the way. Not available after that (presumably a summer residence).

So another poll (not anonymous)

I know the world doesn’t revolve around me (although it should) but I can’t do first weekend of May cos Barcelona Primavera

Would be looking at last two weekends of May and first weekend of June. The latter two bookend half term in some parts of the country but it isn’t any more expensive.

Its a lovely idea but its the kinda of thing at some point would start making me feel a bit anxious about being around a big group/strangers.

But may change my mind.

Realise I’m getting a bit ahead of myself here - I’ll have a look for other May / June possibilities tomorrow and post a few options. Can’t imagine there’ll be much better at that price point though - similar places are on at double that!

I’d prefer the earlier one, as we’ll be away from Winifred for a long time from the Wed after the second weekend.

Not sure if this is influencing the vote at all, but the 30th isn’t a bank holiday next year, like it would normally be.

BTW, if you’re keen but either it’s a bit out of price range or you wouldn’t be able to pay for a while then feel send me a message and I’m sure we can sort something :blush:

I think the only fair way to do it is first come first served, but as mentioned I can front some places so you don’t necessarily need to be in a position to pay yet.

Also going to cross reference attendees against those who said they enjoy cold water swimming in the hobbies thread :rofl:
