New Macbook Pros start at over £1200, which is mind-boggling.

Oh right, well, that’s just absurd.

I’ve just looked it up, and the normal macbooks start at that price too!

  • recording a new album in sept, likely wont put it out til early next year though
  • would like to make a music video or a film of some sort too
  • take a holiday. not really something i prioritise but feel like it’s needed
  • move into a new flat

can’t believe yous are all arguing about computer specs and @theo’s not even behind it

I think there are valid reasons to go for a mac, especially for music related stuff. Perhaps a circular thing but they dominate the music making market so a lot of gear is aimed towards it, never had to mess around with drivers or anything (haven’t used a pc in awhile maybe that is the same now), Logic Pro is a lot cheaper than say ableton live 9 with similar features (assume final cut might be a similar situation for video) which offsets some of the cost, plus a hassle free operating system. I’m happy to pay more as It is probably my single most used purchase that I’m going to use for about 4 years, plus can recoup some of the higher resale value. Having said that now they’ve gone over the £1,000 I will have to think about it harder next time

sort my hall out (strip woodchip, get rid of all the blown plaster, get electrics routed into wall properly, get replastered, get floors sanded, decorate)

get the bathroom done (if I can afford it)

i thought the opposite was true, or maybe until fairly recently when bedroom recording became a lot more affordable. i guess the biggest plus for PCs is essentially that you can mix and match, you can upgrade specific parts of your system rather than buy a new one every couple of years. that is crucial for me because video technology moves much faster, and even as a freelance editor working from home i’m expected to be able to work with cinema quality footage.

edit:
take it to the gear thread, nerds

ive been in my flat 7 years - and its fair to say that progress is glacial

my bedroom and the kitchen are both done now though, which is kind of spurring me on to do the rest

cant you take the tunnel?

no way of knowing I guess but whenever I am at a gig and see a computer on stage more often than not it is a MacBook, and it seems to filter down to the hobbiest level, like music shops sell MacBooks

that’s not the point

Or if you were a true cyclist like you say you are

Just so bloody lazy sometimes

I’ve heard that you and your band are selling your macbooks and buying desktops
