Interesting… so when I was there a new block was built especially for drama and maths (weird combo i know). I was chosen along with a bunch of students to have our picture and names put in a time capsule under the building - i was representing drama - and there was a ceremony and we were all in the paper and stuff.

A few years ago on NYE we got chatting to some more recent students and they were like ‘oh yeah that block got knocked down’ and I thought, fucking typical, I thought this was my chance to stand the test of time and history, and it’s gone.

they also told me my favourite drama teacher committed suicide which really upset me and ruined my new years tbh. But now I’ve just read the block IS still standing, so maybe they were just being nasty and lying? Maybe my drama teacher is still kicking about! I hope so.

Sorry tl;dr people who go to west hatch are bastards, i’m in a time capsule

the very same (i think I had long left by the time he started)

ALSO, they’ve left off the most important alumni of all: Paul Danan!!!

just that fascinating small town thing of assuming anyone in a band is ‘reaching for stardom’. my brothers will still speak dismissively of local people who are still playing in bands in their 30s as if they’re still desperately trying to get famous, rather than that they just enjoy it.

i remember being about 12 and discovering my guitar teacher was in a band, and buying their demo EP in the local record shop, and getting really excited at the idea of his band becoming big and being able to say he taught me guitar.

the guy behind the counter chuckled to himself when i bought it, which i never understood until i was a few years older.

Seems I completely got my years wrong. Originally I lived in an area which had middle schools, then we moved to an area that had just junior and senior. I’m actually 1989 (I think).

Gosh everyone’s bailing on me. It’s like school, all over again!

How often did they tell you to Move Your Feet?

Lol it was like 2002 then

I fucked that up as well. Sorry! We had middle schools in Oxford then, so I started year 5 in 1990, not year 7.

  • My school was a comprehensive
  • My school was a secondary modern
  • My school was a private school
  • My school was a grammar school
  • My school was a montessori or other such alternative
  • I did not go to school
  • I don’t know what type of school I went to

Enjoying watching 1990 crew crumble by the minute

Just a plain old secondary school

I think the difference is, if your area is a grammar area, it had grammars and secondary moderns. If it wasn’t, you went to a comprehensive. Or something

We’re getting old and losing our minds.

Whoops

MySpace and Bebo both dying has meant we’ve lost a lot of my teenage songwriting classics.

I started secondary school in 95 but was a year ahead of where I should have been because I was awesome/a massive fucking nerd. I like that I remember this not from actually just knowing, but that I remember that my username on the computers there started with 95.

also the only thing I represented my school in was maths, again because I was awesome/a massive fucking nerd.
