I prefer the first Paddington. Is this a controversial opinion or is it still to come, exciting stuff

I reckon consensus is that the 2nd is better so unlikely to be here. Don’t think it’s mad for someone to prefer the first though. Both very good imo

I’m not sure which of the 2 I preferred - I liked that Paddington 1 has a clearly defined ‘message’ so maybe that

Whoops, guess I accidentally clicked on the top 100 children’s films thread

people usually say the second one is better because it’s so rare that sequels are any good at all. think realistically they’re about the same.

I did, too.

41! This is an absolute farce. I know most DiSers are cynical empty husks of humans but come on. Genuinely one of the most lovingly crafted and purely wonderful films there has ever been. Giving you all a hard stare right now.

Had them both in my top 10, 2 was my No1 choice. Think it’s my favourite film ever.

The creativity is just astonishing, it’s technically superb, it makes me cackle with laughter and also a blubbery mess. Hugh Grant deserved a knighthood for this film alone. It is perfect. Think the only thing I’d say is that it needs about an extra five seconds breathing room at the very end when Aunt Lucy arrives but I don’t think I’d actually be able to handle that emotionally so possibly for the best

I think I forgot all Wes Anderson films doing this

They’re all basically the same and just worse versions of a film he made last century anyway

When he’s visited in jail my daughter whispered “is that a mirror or is this facetime?”

I don’t think that’s why people say it. It’s a better film on every level.

Yep, the anti-Brexit propaganda vibes of the first is what swung it for me. That and the fact that I watched the sequel in dribs and drabs, should probably give it a proper go.

The 1st had more interaction between Paddington and the Brown family which are some of my favourite parts and I did think was slightly missing from 2

Zinedine Zidane when asked who the greatest midfielder he ever played against was: ‘Paddington 2’
