In all seriousness Ant, I think it is a story that has resonance with older folk like myself

My point is that this site is unusual in its love of Ratatouille. And for me its critical consensus is pretty much spot on. Incredibles, Up, Toy Story and Monsters Inc also Inside Out which I don’t fully love are all top of the game films for me because they have aspects to their plot and design that are really inventive. Ratatouille is a pretty straightforward plot, it doesn’t really surprise me.

Been a pretty good run of films recently* tbh. Good work everyone

*except amelie which is all style no substance twee shite

I wonder if The Assassination of Jesse James will be on this list, seems like one of those films that the few people who have seen it really love.

  • Ratatouille
  • what’s that?
  • a rat makes it as a chef
  • i don’t think so, alan

It’s kind of a cheap pop isn’t it really? Like I say, I love the film and that montage etc are amazingly executed but it’s kind of inherently reductive or something maybe? I dunno, I love Up I just think if you strip away that montage I don’t think the film works particularly well.

I love the soundtrack but I think I only made it 30 mins into the film

and coming before we hit the top 30:

A PIXARS!
A COENS!
A WES ANDERSONS!
A FRENCH!
A PTA!
A HANEKE!

AND MUCH, MUCH MORE!!!

I can see that, as we all know, older people are always chasing after mythical birds for some reason

(I’m in agreement with you x)

The opening you mean? You’re nuts, a film where an old man flies a house with balloons and discovers his boyhood hero is hiding out in a jungle trying to capture a bird this boy he’s teamed up with loves? Featuring a talking Golden Retriever who fights a series of doberman dogs and immortalised “The Cone of Shane”? And SQUIRREL!

Edit I mean the montage is emotional but the film after is excellent with its plots and action sequences etc

Genuinely, what is the standout quote/item from Ratatouille?

ikr

‘my god! he’s made it as a top chef!’
