Trivia Time: This film was the official submission of Austria for the Academy Awards in the ‘Best Foreign-Language Film’ category, but was disqualified then because it was not “predominantly shot in the official language of the submitting country,” but rather in French. The controversy that ensued over that - as well as the virtually simultaneous disqualification of Italy’s submission of the Arabic- and Hebrew-language film Private (2004) - prompted the foreign language committee to enact a rule change the following year that made any language acceptable in a foreign language submission - hence Canada’s submission of a Hindi-language film in 2007 (Water (2005)) and Australia’s of a German-language film in 2012 (Lore (2012)). Any language, that is, except English.

no no, it was this and Lives of Others that tied, so I chose Cache to be 7th (as it is better)

Finally it’s c-horse’s time to bring the #hottakes!

Most overrated film of the century. Boring, says nothing. Ambiguity is nice and all but shouldn’t take the place of maybe actually telling a story. Also it nicked the opening premise from Lost Highway.

drops mic, moonwalks back to the brexit thread

Remarkable for just one post to be so very wrong. Impressive tbh

I don’t necessarily have an issue with ambiguity in films but the ending to this made me properly angry.

It answers the question though?

I’ve gone from never having seen this picture before this thread to wondering how we ever managed without it in the space of just 2000 short posts.
