Vote for your favourite album and also your second and third choices. Make your selections clear please as it makes tallying up the scores easier. If you list a whole bunch of albums without making your selections clear I’ll take the first three mentioned as 1st, 2nd and 3rcakd places. No joint positions please. Sorry to be a pedant.
Your album of the month will get three points, 2nd placed album two points and 3rd placed album one point. If you name only one album I’ll give that three points. If you name two albums I’ll score them with three and two points accordingly
A good month for me. Not as good as March but still a strong month for new albums. My choices:
1.CupcakKe - Queen Elizabitch
2. San Fermin - Belong
3. The Smith Street Band - More Scared Of You Than You Are Of Me
(4. Ray Davies - Americana)
CupcakKe’s album is a great fun rap record. Definitely worth checking out as it might have gone under the radar. I’m probably wrong but I haven’t seen it reviewed in a big publication/website apart from Pitchfork.
Juliana Hatfield has a new album out tomorrow and I’ll see if it and recommendations from you guys changes my top three.
Please forgive any shameless bumps of this thread during the week. I’ll keep this thread open until Sunday 7th May and so you’ll have over a week to listen to tomorrow’s releases before choosing.
Vote now!! (Or later in the week) but make your choices clear please.
GAS - Narkopop
(4. Low Roar - Once in a long, long while)
Had to put no. 4 in there as I don’t think it’ll get any votes on here, but it’s very enjoyable. In the same vein as the first two albums, if you’ve heard them. Glitch-y, melancholic indie that kind of recalls grandaddy.
Excellent month, a lot of quality releases to digest… Based on what I’ve listened to & enjoyed most this month.
1/ Actress - AZD
2/ Kendrick Lamar - Damn
3/ Future Islands - The Far Field
Have also enjoyed GAS, Arca & New Pornographers.
Only listened to Fr John Misty once, but I could potentially have a high opinion of it with more listens.
Some disappointments this month - had high hopes for Timber Timbre and Juliana Hatfield, but no. Expected to be disappointed by Gorillaz, and duly was. Enjoyed Jamiroquai’s comeback, but I think that was a March release anyway.
