DiS Users' April 2018 Album Of The Month

#21

It’s actually starting to grow on me now. “Backslidin’” in particular is really good. I still hate that bit in the first song though.

#22
  1. Grouper - Grid of Points
  2. Sarah Davachi - Let Night Come On Bells End the Day
  3. Felicia Atkinson - Coyotes

Pretty much it for me his month, which is good as I haven’t caught up with March releases yet.

#23
  1. Grouper
  2. Goat Girl

#24

Finally…another Goat Girl nod. Seriously people, get listening - it is great :+1:

#25

yeah its a fun little record. bares many a repeated listen. don’t why its gone so under the radar.

#26
  1. Hop Along - Bark Your Head Off, Dog
  2. Teen Creeps - Birthmarks
  3. Emma Tricia - St. Peter

Teen Creeps has definitely not been getting the attention they deserve. Just awesome fuzzy rock, with hints of No Age, Jawbreaker and even early Death Cab on one song.

Spring Onion, Mastersystem and No Thank You all get recommendations too - much better month than it seemed at one time.

#27
  1. møl - Jord
  2. A Lily - Ten Drones on Cassette
  3. Daniel Avery - Song for Alpha

møl is an intense slab of Deafheaven-style anguished black metal and is ticking all my boxes.
A Lily is some lovely warm drone.
And Daniel Avery is one of the best examples of throwback IDM in recent years.

#28

A lily came out in December last year

#29

Oh fuck. Been duped by Headphone Commute.

#30

Aye, pretty sure I posted it in one of the ambient threads too.

#31

Well this is mortifying. Second time this year I’ve done something like this. Fine:

  1. møl - Jord
  2. Daniel Avery - Song for Alpha
  3. Rival Consoles - Persona

#32
  1. Daniel Avery - Song for Alpha
  2. Grouper - Grid Of Points
  3. Alexis Taylor - Beautiful Thing

#33

Daniel Avery is a popular choice. I can recommend this for those rating Song for Alpha:

#34

Some pretty great records out last month, my stand outs:

  1. Sarah Davachi - Let Night Come On Bells End The Day
  2. Rival Consoles - Persona
  3. Grouper - Grid of Points
  4. The Caretaker - Everywhere at the End of Time (Stage 4)
  5. Daniel Avery - Song for Alpha

Lots to look forward to this month, looking forward to hearing Gas, Koze, Hopkins, Sea & Cake, Actress, Malkmus & Parquet Courts. Nom nom nom.

#35

Only new record I have a proper listen to In April was Goat Girl, and I really enjoyed it.

Gave hop along a couple of spins and thought it was ok.

#36

More votes for Wye Oak and Amen Dunes.

But also DRINKS 2nd LP…really liking it.

#37

Aye. With you all the way. DRINKS is good, alright. Not so much love here though.

#38

Not a great month in my opinion, feel like none of these albums will be in my best of the year but nonetheless:

  1. Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Sex & Food
  2. Laura Veirs - The Lookout
  3. Janelle Monae - Dirty Computer

May looks like it will get things back on track!

#39

Probably the toughest month so far for me, really enjoyed ten albums and struggled to find time to listen to them all as much as I’d have liked to. Anyway, as it stands I’ll go:

1 - Hinds - I Don’t Run
2 - A Place to Bury Strangers - Pinned
3 - Rival Consoles - Persona

4 - Daniel Avery - Song For Alpha
5 - Dirty Computer - Janelle Monae
6 - Josh T Pearson - The Straight Hits!
7 - Goat Girl - Goat Girl
8 - Møl - Jord
9 - Spring Onion - I Did My Taxes For Free Online
10 - Hop Along - Bark Your Head Off, Dog

#40

Ah totally missed the Hinds record, how the fuck did I manage that.
Will be sure to remedy that asap
