Really good month. All of my top 3 could challenge for album of the year and there’s still loads of not had the chance to listen to.

Yet to listen to Rapsody, Press Club, Slipknot and Tool

  1. Highnoon - Semi Sweet

  3. Infinity Crush - Virtual Heaven
  4. Jay Som - Anak Ko

I’ve had a very busy month and not had my eye on the ball with new releases. Lots to catch up on and not really sure if I’m happy with that as a top 5, but there we are.

Get the heck on these!

Will do. Usually find that my actual album of the month is one I listen to after I vote in these polls.

Hard to rank this month.

  1. Palm Haze - Reve Blue
  2. Tropical Fuck Storm - Braindrops
  3. The Murder Capital - When I Have Fears
  4. Sleater-Kinney - The Center Won’t Hold
  5. Tool - Fear Innoculum

Strongest runner up: Modern Nature - How to Live (the first half isn’t doing much for me yet, but the second half is great. Sometimes it reminds me of a mixture of Beak> and Grizzly Bear maybe?)

2-4 might be better as a whole than my number one, but big chunks of the Palm Haze album are by far the most exciting release for me. Wildflower is already one of my favorite songs of the decade (9 minutes of fast, depressing, tense shoegaze), and Drop In reminds me a bit of Carnavas-era Silversun Pickups without the sadness. It has a great tempo change too that I wish went on forever. The next album has a chance to be really special.

The Tropical Fuck Storm album is fantastic as expected, and like the debut it’s bleak and catchy at the same time. I love the lyric style so much, I have no idea how they come up with all of that.

Big thanks to everyone voting for The Murder Capital, I’d never heard of them before and took a chance on it based on how much it was showing up. It’s great.

The Sleater-Kinney album exceeded my expectations, it’s already comfortably ahead of No Cities to Love and One Beat for me.

Not sure what time I’ll do the counting up. Let’s call the cut off around 3pm.

  1. Cultdreams - Things That Hurt
  2. Blanck Mass - Animated Violence Mild
  3. The Murder Capital - When I Have Fears
  4. Press Club - Wasted Energy
  5. Sleater-Kinney - The Center Won’t Hold
  6. Palm Haze - Reve Bleu

Tool
Slipknot
Feeder
Pijn & Conjurer

Can’t remember who recommended Cultdreams (formerly Kamikaze Girls) but it is a fantastic record. Haven’t spent enough time with Slipknot or Tool albums to rank them honestly, but they could both be anywhere in the top 5. Special mention to Feeder. It’s a really good album which reminds me of their album Echo Park. I haven’t given it a place though as it’s really nothing new despite being enjoyable.

Think press club and Blanck Mass are walking this :sunglasses:

Pretty great month, I like all of my top 5 a lot and have plenty more to check out based on these lists!

  1. Press Club
  2. Hold Steady
  3. Bon Iver
  4. Possible Humans (more people try this out please! The Thumps and Born Stoned are two of the best indie rock jams of the year)
  5. Oso Oso

Jay Som was a very good runner-up and I think I’ll have to really look into LDR, Murder Capital and Palm Haze at least.
