  1. Sugar Horse - The Live Long After. My favourite heavy album that I’ve heard this year, ffo Deftones, Cult Of Luna, Bossk etc, epic quiet / loud / occasionally 80s gothy stadium rock sounding kinda stuff. It’s excellent.

  2. Wolves In The Throne Room - Primordial Arcana

  3. Unreqvited - Beautiful Ghosts

  4. The Killers - Pressure Machine

  5. Between The Buried and Me - Colours II

I’ve not heard Turnstile or Quicksand yet, need to rectify that

Some good albums out this month although a bit more of quality over quantity which suits me as I have been able to spend more time with a few that I’ve really liked.

  1. Liars - The Apple Drop
  2. Lang Lee - There is a Wolf
  3. Chvrches - Screen Violence
  4. Wednesday - Twin Plagues
  5. Orla Gartland - Woman on the Internet

Can’t make up my mind on the Deafheaven. On a couple of listens I’ve thought it great but a couple of other times I haven’t enjoyed it. I like the Damon and Naomi but get a bit bored. And I’ve enjoyed the Angus and Julia Stone.

Never loved the Liars but this album is great so may go back and spend some more time with earlier albums.

Lang Lee was completely new to me and I love it. May overtake Liars.

Chvrches is great. Sort of lost touch with them since the first album but lots to admire in here.

  1. Turnstile - GLOW ON
Such a fun album to listen to. Took a few listens to click but now I’m grinning whilst I walk down the street to it.

  2. Indigo De Souza - Any Shape You Take
Another very good indie rock album in 2021, following on from Japanese Breakfast, Torres, Lucy Dacus etc. Hold U, Die/Cry and Kill Me are standouts for me.

  3. Halsey - If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power
First I’ve heard of Halsey. Quite dark and experimental in places with a few bangers sprinkled in e.g. honey

  4. Kanye West - Donda
Bloated album by a broken man but there’s something about Kanye’s production that I love. Cut down to 14-15 tracks its very good IMO.

  5. Foxing - Draw Down The Moon
Was a bit addicted to this when it came out. Cooled on it now (vocals reminding me of Everything Everything didn’t help!) but still some great tracks and a fun listen.

Honourable mentions to Deafheaven, CHVRCHES, Lorde and Maisie Peters.

  1. Deafheaven - Infinite Granite
  2. Sarmism - Wander Lands
  3. Villagers - Fever Dream
  4. Tomorrow’s People - Shire T
  5. Haiku Salut - The Hill, The Light, The Ghost

Yeah, I’m late to the game but enjoying it a lot!

Listened to it a fair bit over the week of release, but disappearing to a festival has made me forget it. So thanks for the nudge

Awesome month. There are records I couldn’t fit into my 1-a-day ranking that I really enjoyed, and in a strong month for rap records I couldn’t even fit Donda into my top 40 despite there being a handful of great tracks there. Started adding For Fans Of notes to my list and made a playlist with one track per album for my albums of the month, thought it might be worth sharing if anyone is interested in checking out some of the stuff I’ve listed and doesn’t have time to go through everything in the weekly release threads every week:
