DiS Users December 2022 Album Of The Month - The Results and the 2022 list.

They do nothing for me, for some reason. Because they’re not that different from the rest of the album. I do prefer it when the bassist is singing as well though.

Interesting, I would usually have thought that kind of thing would effect later songs. Also Jollies With The Boys is the lead single which is amusing. Anyway aye, Soapy is great

The usual Sunday midday deadline for submitting your selections.

Ah, hadn’t realised that this month hadn’t been calculated yet! For whatever it’s worth, can I change my top five please?
I came across this Paul Spring album last week, which I’ve really been loving. Description of some of his songs being “dazzling in their textures, as choral influences and electronic elements are combed through a sense of the Irish tradition.”

  1. Paul Spring - Thunderhead
  2. Black Ox Orkestar - Everything Returns
  3. Shirley Hurt - Shirley Hurt

Surprisingly hard to narrow down to a top 5 this month. Thanks to posters on this thread for rating/discussing the Other Half one which I have only got into this week, but really enjoyed it, especially (as @uncleretrospective notes above) when the two voices are in, doing the Frank Black & Kim Deal-esque double act.

My top album this month is a Chinese electropop album of wall-to-wall bangers. Its nothing original, but very well produced and my 6 year old has insisted we have it on every car journey recently and even goes to sleep to it. Grimes is an obvious touchpoint, but at times it reminds me of Trent Reznor, Ladytron, AURORA. It is very pop, but worth checking out if that sounds like your bag.

Thanks @BMS1 for continuing to run these threads, they’re an invaluable part of the music board and help people to keep up with what’s going down well with like-minded people without needing to be all over the weekly releases or waiting until year-end lists. Your dedication is much appreciated!
