CHANGES CHANGES CHANGES!!!
VOTE FOR YOUR TOP FIVE ALBUMS!!
VOTE FOR YOUR TOP FIVE ALBUMS!!
I’ve often wanted to award points to my 4th and 5th favourites especially on strong months for releases and wasn’t able due to my own rules and they end up as honourable mentions.
Vote for your favourite five albums. Make your selections clear please as it makes tallying up the scores easier. If you list a whole bunch of albums without making your selections clear I’ll take the first five mentioned as 1st, 2nd,3rd, 4th and 5th. No joint positions please. Sorry to be a pedant.
Your album of the month will get five points, 2nd placed album four points, 3rd placed album three points, 4th placed album two points and 5th one point. If you name only one album I’ll give that five points. If you name two albums I’ll score them with five and four points etc. You get the message.
Always a lot of great recommendations from you guys about albums that I’ve missed or overlooked.
It’s been an ok month so far for me with new releases so far. I liked Piroshka, Cherry Glazerr and Bob Mould. I liked The Spielbergs but maybe as not as others here. Tomorrow is a big one for releases for me with Desperate Journalist. I’m a huge fan and looking forward to that. The tracks I’ve heard of Yola are lovely and Du Blonde has a new one out.
I’ll post my top five after investigating tomorrow’s. I thought I’d kick off the thread a day before the last Friday in the month as usual.
Please forgive any shameless bumps of this thread during the week. I’ll keep this thread open until Sunday 3th March and so you’ll have over a week to listen to tomorrow’s releases before choosing.
Vote now!! (Or later in the week) but make your choices clear please.
The new DJ album is superb imho, will look forward to hearing your thoughts on it. Been a strong month for me again although would take a lot to top Jan…will get thinking of my choices
The new tracks they played at their Waiting Room gig sounded excellent. The reviews have all been strong and the new song Satellite is brilliant.
Ah, see I’m sure James Yorkston and maybe Moving Panoramas will be in my top 5 but both not out til tomorrow…so, question is whether I should just assume they’d be in…
- James Yorkston – The Route to the Harmonium
- Theon Cross - Fyah
- Savage Mansion - Revision Ballads
- The Specials - Encore
- Moving Panoramas – In Two
- Crocodiles - Love is Here
- Gemma Ray - Psychogeology
If ineligible then just moved Crocodiles and Gemma in and everyone else up.
EDIT - didn’t bother to read your full post, did I? I’ll come back and edit later.
Another ludicrously strong month:
1. C.S. Armstrong "CHAUNCY"
Just a short EP, but this guy is phenomenal. Like a cross between Gaye, D’Angelo and .Paak. The real deal I think. He has released a series of brilliant original singles over the past couple of years - album due later in the year apparently. Hyped for that.
2. Mariam The Believer "String Variations"
I am a sucker for arty Swedish pop, and this hits all the right spots.
3. The Unthanks "Lines Parts 1-3"
Literary concept project that could have been overwrought, but is just simple and beautiful.
4. Cosey Fanni Tuti "TUTTI"
Great album, and have to pay respects to a giant of electronic music.
5. Theon Cross "Fyah"
Local boy to me - and have seen him play many times in local bars and clubs. He can get the whole place dancing on tables with a tuba. Respect to that.
Also liked these a lot - any of which could have snuck into the top five…
August Alsina “Forever and A Day”
Bvdub “Explosions In Slow Motion”
Elder Island “The Omnitone Collection”
Good Fuck “Good Fuck”
King Midas Sound “Solitude”
Modeselektor “Who Else”
Ossia “Devil’s Dance”
Spellling “Mazy Fly”
Spielbergs “This Is Not The End”
Teeth of The Sea “Wraith”
Tuamie & Fly Anakin “Emergency Raps Vol.4”
Yugen Blakrock “Anima Mysterium”
- Speilbergs - This Is Not The End
- Dear Seattle - Don’t Let Go
- Julia Jacklin - Crushing
- Tiny Ruins - Olympic Girls
- Ithaca - The Language of Injury
So many strong albums released last week, really put a cat amongst the pigeons, any of the following could have also snuck into the top five:
Yola - Walk Through Fire
Woahnows - Young and Cool
And The Kids - When This Life Is Over
Minors - Abject Bodies
Du Blonde - Lung Bread For Daddy
Millencolin - SOS
Bob Mould - Sunshine Rock
- LCD Soundsystem - Electric Lady Sessions
- Julia Jacklin - Crushing *
- Mikron - Severance
- Efdemin - New Atlantis
- Modeselektor - Who Else
*despite really disliking 3 tracks. Love the rest though.
The singles off that desperate journalist album are absolute belters, like goosebump good. Looking forward to having this album sink in over the next few weeks!
Tiny Ruins - Olympic Girls
Max Gowan - Bygones
Speilbergs - This is Not the End
Thelma - The Only Thing
Beirut - Gallipoli
Also really enjoyed…
Dave Harrington Group, Stats, Julia Jacklin, Holiday Ghosts and the It Keeps Snowing EP
Feb was a good month
- Yann Tiersen - All
- Jungstötter - Love Is
- Beirut - Gallipoli
- Bayonne - Drastic Measures
- James Yorkston - The Route To The Harmonium
Preferred this month to January.
- Spielbergs - This is Not the End
- Bob Mould - Sunshine Rock
- Drenge - Strange Creatures
- Dear Seattle - Don’t let Go
- Desperate Journalist - In Search of the Miraculous
- Yak - Pursuit of Momentary Happiness
- Wicca Phase Springs Eternal - Suffer On
- Mantra - Dreamland
Yes, a top 8 this month. Top 3 stand apart but selections 4-8 are all 7/10 albums in my opinion and are all interchangeable.
