And a few other tracks I’ve enjoyed from the month here:

Yea! I’ve written two consecutive blog posts. Whooooooo Who!

But it looks like I have more work to do on the formatting

Julien Baker will be my top and I’ll move the others down one. Just in the interests of openness in this legally binding thread.

Have a listen to the Steady Holiday album also, I think you might really like it. It’s super short, at 28 minutes and 8 tracks, but really quite catchy and good!

Yeah it’s a goodun

Excellent month, really surprised at how much I like Tindersticks. haven’t been properly into one of their albums since ‘Can Our Love…’ DJ Muggs may even have surpassed his great form over the last few years with another incredibly really addictive album, and James Johnson & Steve Gullick is not only a beautiful album but, given my sleeping difficulties atm, a really useful one for me as well.

Ive not seen any mention of the Reymour album on here but reckon a fair few on here would like it. It’s basically French synth pop but but with a doleful, kitchen sink vibe which reminds me of Ladytons debut ‘604’.

  5. Talons’ - new nightmares
  6. Cloud Nothings - The Shadow I Remember
  • Love the Mogwai and BC,NR albums so much. Both feel like instant classics.

  • Brand new to GIAA, great propulsive post-rock.

  • The Loathe album is a surprise ambient release, it’s fantastic. Calming and menacing at the same time.

  • Feels like Talons’ made the definitive pandemic album. Very affecting and direct.

  • Very mixed feelings on Cloud Nothings. The highs are among their best but overall feels undercooked and like a step back.

Cassandra Jenkins beautiful album by a mile. Not much between Julien Baker and sixth place Mogwai for the others.

The Weather Station starts brilliantly, but feels a bit one paced over the full course. Maybe some of it needs longer to get its hooks in? An element of this with Julien Baker too.

The Hold Steady and Flyying Colours records are welcome blasts. Didn’t know I needed a shoegaze re-write of Dancing In The Dark?

Would strongly agree with this.

  1. Mogwai
  2. Genesis Owusu
  3. Your old droog, the god fahim
  4. Clap your hands, say yeah
  5. Hammer

cassandra Jenkins, black country new road, lael neale, nick cave, Django Django, Chris crack and God is an astronaut are all worthy of more time but really they’ve all been struggling to keep Mogwai off the stereo.

I haven’t heard the album yet but the Genesis Owusu album looks to have been released yesterday and not in February judging by the comments on the New Releases.

Want to change your vote?

D’oh bump them all up and add Lael neale in at 5 please!

Think it was @littlebirds that shared the Owusu album in new releases thread and it’s amazing, for anyone who hasn’t heard it yet.

I really have no idea how to order these. I bought all of the above albums on Bandcamp yesterday, other than Lauren Auder who isn’t on there.
Bodies Of Water are a long time favourite of mine, great catchy album.
Frederik Valentin would have been number one most other months. Very intriguing different sounding songs.
Mansfield.TYA was a random discovery. Catchy French electro-poppy kind of sounds.
